Putting mildly. The great BAMA program still has to use 5.5 million of UNIVERISTY or institutional funding. AS IN they are -5.5 million at the end of the year.

That's great! And I applaud you. But there are millions of kids who flunk out every year, too...or thousands, anyway.

Some because they party...some because school is a bit tougher than they thought. I struggled in school, because High School was a breeze and I didn't have to study. I never learned to study. I had to learn how to study first. But, yes. My son went to school, worked full time was married and had a baby. His wife is doing the same thing. My son got his brains from his mother, though!

I went to Kennesaw to take my math classes during the summer while I was at UGA because I knew they'd be easier. It was high school math. The credits transferred because they were part of the Georgia university system, and had recently achieved that status. UGA caught on quick though, and stopped accepting math credits from them. One of my "professors" there was actually a high school algebra teacher from my high school, making some summer scrilla The hardest part of that class was that it was 7:30am 5 days a week, while all my friends were on Phish tour.

The one thing Kennesaw State has over UGA is their cops are worse than Athens cops. That whole county is the gestapo of the state.

$0 - if an education isn't worth it, let them form their own league.

I love the march of the Lemmings.

You people hear the media play a tune and before you know it you're all lined up marching in a circle.

So Steve Spurrier is an idiot and doesn't understand how college athletics works? I'm not an expert, that's for sure, but if they already get stipends, why would Spurrier support stipends if they already exist? Is he going senile?

Spurrier is wanting an additional $2,000 for each player at the beginning of the semester that is attached to their scholarship and travel expenses paid for families each game.

Totally amazed how misinformed folks are on the subject of how stipends work.Had a friend who's son played FB@ Arkansas. Kid got $1,200 per month PLUS a 4k Pell Grant (which the majority of FBS signees qualify for) lived like a freakin king(in college terms). If yer adding it up it almost 18k (tax free) a year. It still doesn't include books and tuition.

It does kinda suck for Freshman who have to live in school housing and meal plan and don't get a direct cash
payment.More than likely, this is the group Spurrier is pointing towards.

Honestly, I think we are moving in the direction of a stipend. I think a stipend is fine. Not really necessary as being broke is part of life for most college students and athletes already get enough perks and advantages over the student population as it is, but I am ok with a small one.

As I pointed out in another thread however, it won't do much to end the discussion as people will always talk about what a big business college athletics are and say it isn't enough.

Well, there you fricking go. As I said, enough will never be enough regardless. People always have their hand out wanting more.

How about we get baseball teams some more scholarships before giving out stipends.

The article posted earlier in the thread also was about Arkansas, is this an Arkansas thing where they've found loopholes to pay players, or is this just a coincidence?

I got 100 dollars a month while on ROTC scholarship in the 1980's at AU.

In todays dollars, probably 500 or so.

Nah, they all get stipends including UGA. Usually you get
a higher sitpend if the campus is in an urban area (USC
St Johns etc) Didn't even read the article to be honst with you.

It does suck for Freshmen who have to live on campus
and don't get the room and board allowance.

I've been meaning to tell you, the watermelon signature pic has been cut off by photobucket, so you need to change your signature.

Who gives a shite. These people already have notoriety. Why do they need money when people already look up to and revere them? They have everything they need and they are pursuing their dreams and becoming a better man/woman while doing it. With some bad ones here and there.

This is a terrible idea and it is irrational and detrimental to the overall college.

Stupid. Stupid idea. Jesus Christ it's a stupid idea.
