Much better? Looks like he's doing the exact same as he did at Bama.

Yeah. He's been underwhelming at NCSU.

I'm thinking the OP has no idea about the history of NC State basketball.

With the talent he's had, he should be much better than an 8 seed.

2 Sweet 16s out of 4 seasons? OK, if you say so.

Not very good. That's why he was fired.

There's no doubt that the Wolfpack has been down for some years, but they have two national titles and many deep tournament runs on their resume. It's quite obvious the resources are available, even in a deep conference, for success at NC State.

That all being said, success can be attainable at Alabama as well. Gottfried had it early on in his tenure at UA. Wimp Sanderson's career is well documented as well. CM Newton is a more distant example.

I think a new facility is needed to take the progam to new heights, that an athletic department as profitable as Alabama should expect. The right hire could do that.

Holy frick. Look at the big picture. Nothing better than an 8 seed, very talented teams that underperform, can't win on the road, prone to get blown out, will have both a big upset and a terrible loss within weeks of each other, etc.

Hell, they should have lost on Thursday. All LSU had to do was hit one or two shots in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Add all the extra stuff with Gottfried to what was previously said. I won't rehash it since it was all mentioned in a thread yesterday.

It's like an old girlfriend... At the point you split up things were going nowhere fast. If it had continued it would have gotten worse. Eventually she straightened out and got with a good guy but there's no reason to regret the splitup. It was mutually beneficial for both parties.

Gottfried lost focus and it was not good for him to stay at Bama. Why some AU fans want us to be wringing about his success I will never understand.

After reading that thread yesterday, it seemed like there were off the court reasons to dismiss him as well.

Sometimes coaches need a new start I guess. Hopefully, he cleaned up all that other stuff that was mentioned as well.

You realize we didn't fire him when he was going to NCAAT? He quit doing that and his last 3 years we weren't that same program you keep touting. We went NIT, nothing, nothing. CMG quit recruiting for whatever reason and his iso type offense with powerful big guys didn't work without talented ISO players and good big men. He clearly took a year off, rejuvenated himself and brought the same CMG that was at Alabama in the early-mid 2000s there, not the CMG of the last 3 seasons that was fired.

Seriously, even for you this is really stupid.

I'm glad he's doing well. I hope Grant finds a good job and does well. I'm baffled why auburn fans think this subject is something worth trolling about. The only explanation I can find is that they are so sure Pearl is going to turn them into a national power that they are getting a head start laughing at us. Seems premature to me, but whatever eases the butthurt.

To be fair, Gottfried never got to face a stoned turtle in the first round while at bama.

Gottfried took us farther in the tourney than anyone ever had, and anyone ever has done since. His team knocked off top seeded Stanford, then a very good Syracuse team before falling in the Elite 8.

Anyone who followed Alabama during his coaching tenure knows that he brought us several very good years, and also that the years at the end were a failure and he was not replaced on a whim.

That wasn't a very good year. We should have lost in the first round that year as an 8 seed.

Which is part of my point. Gottfried had some dry times, but the "Finebaum Mob" had little patience and screamed for a change. They used other factors to justify his firing. I have heard it directly from a prominent SEC expert, that AU did the same thing with Cliff Ellis. Everyone thinks they will find lightning in a bottle with a new hire. It rarely works out.

The interesting part is, the Bama fans inability to admit that MG is a good coach.
