Mike Gundy is not realistic. The other two would be great hires.

Why wouldthat not be realistic exactly?

Gundy would jump at the shot to leave Okie St. T Boone Pickens has made it clear he doesn't get along with Gundy.

I said depending on how LSU and Auburn finish up, I thought that that state could finish 2nd in the west this year. So I'd assume that'd be around 10...possibly 11 wins if y'all upset a team you shouldn't. if y'all finish 2nd in the West that will put you in a bowl game and you have a Heisman contender so you're right on track with your ceiling, besides the #1 ranking.

Now all we have to see is can you beat a team in a big NY6 Bowl game.

I just can't think of the last Power 5 coach who had his program rolling to just up and leave for another job.

Saying 10-3 with a bowl loss is his ceiling is what you said. You're on drugs if you think he couldn't pass that this year

Ok. Maybe he can go 11-2 with a bowl win. He'll never win a title at State. I would think that would be a personal goal of his. He's capable of leading a team to a natty but he'll need to move to a blue blood to do it.

Are you kidding me? I feel like I'm being very rational with y'all, I said I believe y'all can possibly finish second in the west depending on how other teams finished their season this year and I said that y'all could possibly pull together a 10 win season next year. What in the heck would you like me to say? That you're going to win the SEC and go to the playoff? who's being irrational then?

I haven't said anything in this thread that would considered "trolling" or "poking fun at." I'm actually trying to have real football conversation, you may not agree with what I'm saying but back to back 10 win or more seasons for Mississippi State would be historic.

Also the "SheaForHeisman" is clearly a joke, come on man. He may be really good but we can't even play for a bowl.

It is a really weird situation, especially because Gundy is a an alum. Here is a list of some weird public comments between Gundy/Pickens

Keep in mind that Pickens donated some $250mil+ to name the stadium after himself. He basically bought the right to drive their winningest coach out of town. Gundy'swinning has saved his job, but it's always been known it uncomfortable

A lot of talk swirls around Gundy past few years if he would be willing to leave OkieSt.

I'm generally not a fan of the Clarion Ledger, but there was a good comment in there on Monday:

quote:

Winners and losers from the college football weekend

WINNER: Dan Mullen

Mullen has that offense rolling, and he's been strong enough to let Todd Grantham take control of that defense and do what needs to be done to pull a 180 from a year ago. And all of this stands to eventually benefit Mullen's bottom line, because the combination of half of the jobs in the SEC West maybe coming open and Mullen being represented by Jimmy Sexton means Mullen is getting paid. To stay in Starkville.

No way he takes a lateral move.

Is doubling compensation lateral? A&M can and will pay huge sums of money. A&M would win in any bidding war. There may be factors other than compensation that would keep Mullen in Starkville.

MSU would match any offer. He is not worth Saban money, so if TAMU offers that, MSU would laugh and let him go. TAMU will get, at best, 3rd or 4th pick of talent in TX. MSU is the best football program in MS, which is a talent rich state.

Yea but it's Mississippi State. They may be good but they will still be a two+ score underdog to Alabama.

So is every other coach in the NCAA except for one or two.

Tx far outpaces Ms as far as talent goes. A good Texas A&M is picking 3rd or 4th behind who? A strong UT (not currently), Bama (who isn't?), maybe LSU sometimes. I'd argue a strong Texas A&M would be in the top two of most of their targets in Tx.

The 2018 class
MS: 0 5 Star, 2 4 star
TX: 2 5 star, 40 4 star

Even if A&M is really the 4th option (it's not) then you're still pulling from a better talent pool.
