Alabama had about 30 games forfeited or vacated over that time span, of course they aren't going to be on top.
If you add in those wins Alabama is at 367 and is #4. (they'd still be behind Ohio State and Florida State which also had about 10 games vacated that aren't included)
So it's clear Alabama, even despite the bad years, has been the premier college football program in the country.

And if you add in what actually happened on the field for UF then we'd have 11 SEC titles.

As far as I'm concerned they do have 11. You win championships on the field, not through asterisks IMO.

You are missing Nebraska's titles. Nebraska also won two titles right before this time frame.

Nebraska being #1 doesn't surprise me, they were remarkably consistent for decades.
They were ranked for 348 straight polls, from 1981-2002, which is the longest streak ever by over 100 polls.
So yeah, I'd say Alabama and Nebraska have both had a damn good past 40 years. Nebraska has just hit it's rough patch recently, whereas Alabama's was like 97-07.
