Defenses planned AROUND Clowney. Clowney was double teamed every play.

Is it any coincidence that our defense sucked as soon he left?

I can't stand fans who say this. "He was double-teamed!" is the go-to excuse for fans when their star rusher isn't putting up great sack totals. As a DL coach, I can tell you that defensive line is a very streaky position. A lot of rushing the quarterback is about having an attacking mentality, and getting "the green light". In a lot of schemes, DL get a larger amount of reads on the OL. Nobody just tells the DL "go git um!!" on every play. They have a specific block keys and reads on every play, which can slow down production as a rusher.

On the other hand, a lot of it can can be a mental thing. What I think happened with Clowney is that he let the hype of being the #1 player in the country, offseason hype, and etc. get into his head and played carefully without being conscious of doing so.

This isn't to say that Clowney was never doubled, but I think fans are very quick to pull that trigger when they have a limited knowledge of how the defensive line really works. The teams that tell their DL to "go git um!" every play often end up like Texas A&M and Mizzou under Kuligowski. While producing big stat monsters is awesome, it's not-so-awesome when you play teams such as Auburn, Arkansas, or 'Bama who run right underneath those guys with a downhill, gap-running scheme.

If we're going to include players that were great in college and didn't pan out in the NFL, let's not leave out Trent Richardson.. Potentially the biggest flop of all time

I think people forget how good Jadeveon Clowney was, and paint a picture of his career on his Junior year and injury-plagued NFL career.

Exactly. The guy wasn't overrated, but he needed to be conditioned better. Sometimes he would take plays off, but when he was on, he was a force.

You've got to be autistic. There's no way you're this much of a retarded a-hole without some kind of mental handicap.

I don't agree with Clowney or Dorsey. They were good as shite. Didn't Clowney have the most sacks by any freshman in sec history?

Mallet was solid at Arkansas under Petrino. Not amazing but definitely was legit.

Got to agree on AJ Johnson, Dismukes, and Depriest. All 3 were very suspect.

Jadeveon Clowney- As much of a freak on the line as you'll ever see, but besides his sophomore year he just didn't put up the numbers you'd think he would

He should've put up Terrell Suggs numbers, not Myles Garrett numbers.

Subtle. Nice two for one right there.

Clowney, Clowney and Clowney. Saw him play great games and saw him absolutely not show up in some games where he was dominated by an awful player. Auburn game comes to mind.
Even his coach questioned his..."will".

Duron Carter anyone? 2-time preseason All-SEC. Our fans talked about him for 2 years. We were going to be so deep at WR!

...and no one saw him play until he knocked down an opposing coach in the CFL a couple of weeks ago.

Jadeveon Clowney-

He was All SEC, All American and #1 Overall in the NFL Draft. Your post is ignorant.
