There are certainly a lot of unfamiliar names in a thread entitled "Most famous Non athlete alumnis from each school."

So if we could narrow this down to ONE person who GRADUATED from an SEC school who is the most well-known...who would it be?
We could do two categories...living and deceased.

And I'm counting one semester to one year as "alumnis" so Jimmy Buffet
You need to expand your timeline, then. Buffet was there less than a semester. AU was on the quarter system way back when.

Since "alumni" includes non-graduates, I have to think Bama's most famous alumnus is Harper Lee.
(This is assuming that "non athlete" was also intended to include coaches, so Bear Bryant is excluded, and Joe Namath would not get on the list from his pantyhose commercials alone)

None of those would qualify as our most famous alum, I don't think.

What, you don't know who Parvati Shallow is?

Always thought her last name was Swallow.
Drops her from an 8 to a 7

I had no idea Chris Tomlin was an Ag. Not sure how I didn't know this. But with that said, I would definitely say Rick Perry and Tomlin are the top 2

I've left tons out in each category and evens kipped over some fields but these are the ones I think of (all categories have been shortened from the sub-cat of famous alumni):
Writing & Acting/Performance
Kurt Vonnegut - War years alum who woulda stayed had the Army and War not had other plans and remembered time fondly, even wrote about Gen. Neyland and UT football in his first book. Considered himself educated at UT.
Cormac McCarthy - Probably the greatest writer of this generation. And prolly the one I'd tout most. Nuff said.
Henry Cho - comedian.
Dixie Carter - Wonderful actress in her prime.
**More and more but I got tired of listing 'em.
Bizness
James Clayton - Clayton Homes etc. made serious BANK manufacturing homes for across the country back when no else was really doing it. He's like a gazillionaire.
AND a bunch of others in all bizness fields. Lots of CEOs, innovators, inventors, and founders. Clayton is prolly the least famous of them - we have the dude from DISH and GARMIN but Clayton started building his business here.
Sci&Tech:
Don't have time to list 'em all but it's immense but this guy deserves mention:
********Mark Dean - Not only is he from Jefferson City ~10-30 mins tops from UT but he is responsible for the PC as we know it. Couldn't type this were it not for him. Oh yeah... he happens to be black.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Dean_%28computer_scientist%29
He holds NINE PC PATENTS all of which are crucial to the PC.
Domestic Pols/Judges
Too many but and Estes Kaufaver were giants among men.
Foreign politicians:
ex-Prime Minister of Jordan Ali_Abu_al-Ragheb LINK
****Astronauts:
We really rack up here. And most are through UT-Knoxville as opposed to just our Space Institute. Seems unreal we have so many.
Military
Too many to name.
Sportscasters:
Holy shite we have tons.
Alas the most famous by tRant/SEC foosball fan standards is likely none other than Mr. Paul Finebaum.

Vonnegut is probably UTk's most well known, but McCarthy deserves to be the most famous.

By my definition the absolute most famous living SEC alum is Brad Pitt from Mizzou or Al Gore from Vandy
Most famous dead alum is hard. Buddy Ebsen from Florida?
