I mean, Jimmy Buffet did learn to play guitar at Auburn. We basically made him who he is. Without Auburn there is no cheeseburger in paradise.

Add Cam Newton to Auburn's list as well-- Entertainer, icon, etc...

They might know the name but if I held up a picture no one would know who he was and I guarantee you Rex Reed's name is more famous than James Andrews

Harry Dean Stanton (played Roman Grant on HBO's Big Love)
Mitch McConnell
Thomas Hunt Morgan - 1933 Nobel Prize winner (Physiology)
Glenn Kotche (drummer for Wilco)
Ashley Judd is probably most famous I suppose.

I love Alton Brown. Best talent on Food Network
Unless every single person on Chopped was killed in a Marshall-esque plane crash last night then no, he is not anywhere near the best talent on Food Network.

You've never heard of Lyle Lovett? Are you 14 years old? I'm not a fan, but I've sure as shite heard of him. He was married to Julia Roberts and has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies. He's a fixture of American culture.

Just curious, who do you think is?

Believe it or not, he was also in "Cool Hand Luke" - 1967........

I'm just giving you a hard time. TBH I don't like anything on Food network other than Chopped-- which I love. Watch it almost every day.
Tony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern on Travel channel are far and away the best food TV talent out there.
Alton Brown is in the Guy Fieri category to me, he is a "character" that just happens to talk about food.

Didn't say he had 100% name recognition.

Bourdain might be the most entertaining guy on television. Parts Unknown and No Reservations were two of the most beautifully shot TV shows I have ever seen. Zimmerman...meh

Oh come on that is insulting. Alton did whole shows on experimenting with food and how to make your own cooking utensils. Fieri is douchey "ROCK AND ROLL CRAZY GUY" "CHECK OUT MY TATS AND SHADES" "FIST BUMP!!!"

As soon as the UGA fan claimed REM despite not graduating, my first thought was auburn could claim Buffet.
To be fair, everyone associates REM with Athens and UGA. Not a ton of people readily know that Buffett attended Auburn for a semester or two before transferring to PRCC and Southern Miss.

Oh yea I'm not comparing them as people, obviously Fieri is WAY worse
They just both seem like they're playing a character. Alton Brown tries to come off as some kind of mad scientist and seems like he takes himself way too seriously to me.
btw: read this hilarious takedown of Guy Fieri by the NYT LINK

That's actually how he is, though. Brown epitomizes that weird guy at UGA that goes on to be insanely successful because of his quirkiness. In a way, he kind of eptiomizes a lot of Athens. The guys from REM? All weird and quirky in some way. Same with WSP and DBT.

People who listen to talk radio or from Georgia may recognize Neil Boortz.
