I was surprised that Arky was closer to MSU than UF on this list.

Behind A&M.

umm, okay?

that doesn't deter anyone from people knowing LSU has proud programs in those fields. We're pretty much right behind you in those fields, so who cares?

It's that "Texan" attitude in them. First website I found after a google search for "top schools for construction management"

Academic rankings are such a moot point anyway.

Exactly. He was totally trying to provoke a pissing much when it isn't even necessary. Just about all of my friends in those majors have landed great internships and jobs across the country. In fact I'm contemplating doing a double major in construction managernent, even though I'm about to take my victory lap in the business school just have some solid connects in construction, and they make excellent money

Folks in MS do refer to OM as the "Harvard of the South" which cracks me up. Even their out of state students laugh at that. Plus, OM likes to give off a UVA type of attitude which can drive other SEC fans crazy.

Apparently the idea of "tongue in cheek" eludes a lot of you.

And I think the "Harvard" they're referring to is the identity of the blue-blood, Mitt Romney Harvard, and not so much the impossible-to-get-into Harvard.

Well that and the University of California is probably the best public university system in the world.

I don't doubt that, but it's not like a UC Irvine graduate is any more accomplished than a run-of-the-mill state school.

True. State schools are going to always win in recruiting students based on the lower tuition costs, and with the economy being what it has been that's become very apparent in higher ed.

A lot of administrators at places like OM and MS State have seen the recession as a godsend, because they're getting interested applicants that they otherwise wouldn't have gotten in a stronger economy. It sounds crazy, but it's true.

You ARE a hick, redneck school!

Stop it. Let's be intellectually honest. Just like people who go to Ole Miss or anywhere else, people who go to MSU get a good education if they apply themselves. The fact that MSU offers some majors that focus on agriculture doesn't make it a "hick, redneck" school.

I have never gotten the impression that LSU's architecture school has a good reputation.

Auburn's is by far the most prestigious when it comes to SEC schools.

They do really try to embrace the "we're the salt of the earth," yeoman farmer image... But yeah I get your point, kids from the suburbs of Jackson and Memphis who go to State aren't really that different than their neighbors who went to Ole Miss.

Using a private school's lack of an AAU membership against it is kind of ridiculous. Many simply aren't research schools.

Actually I disagree with this. There are certainly some excellent private Non AAU schools (Notre Dame, Wake Forest for example) but NOT being an AAU member is a strike against them. The AAU, fairly or unfairly, is the gold standard and there are plenty of private schools that are members, almost all of them being considered elite. AAU membership certainly says more about a school than many of the factors that US News considers and it helps even the field with the big Public schools.

You can be a great school and not be in the AAU but if you are in the AAU it is damn hard to not be a great school, especially since they started kicking some strong members to the curb in recent years like Nebraska and Syracuse.

Actually this has gone a step further for private schools. Many private schools operate like a business and aren't afraid to do things that may or may not be ethical in order to inflate their numbers for lists like these. Public schools can't fake numbers and they have a different mission. They aren't going to go away or fade as easily as a private school can.

UC Irvine is actually a really good school, as are most of the UC schools. If you live in So Cal and don't get in to USC or UCLA it is probably the next best option. The UC System has a large endowment as well that is spread amongst all the UC schools, not just Berkeley and UCLA. UC Santa Barbara is also very good. Lots of very smart kids in California, especially with the large Asian population there that tends to emphasize academics rigorously.

To specify, it's our landscape architecture program that's so prestigious. It's ranked #1 in the country

Let us just end this thread: Vandy is a nationally respected school, A&m is to some extent for engineering, the rest only matters if you are in state or not. To someone in New York or Seattle, there is ZERO difference betweem: UF, UGA, Ole miss, LSU, MSU, UK, Mizzou, Bama, AU, Arky, USCe, UT

I'm more interested in SEC Law Schools. U.S. News 2014 rankings:

#16 Vanderbilt
#23 Alabama
#29 Georgia
#49 Florida
#58 Kentucky
#61 Arkansas
#64 Missouri
#72 LSU
#72 Tennessee
#93 USCe
#104 Mississippi

Huh.

Does Auburn not have a law school?
