Travis Ford is an immensely popular favorite son of Kentucky. A large proportion of UK fans still follow his career at Okie State. In his first year there, Cowboys fans were usually outnumbered by UK fans on OSU boards on their game days.

Its interesting to remember the Mizzou reaction when Travis Ford left, people were FURIOUS. We do still call him a traitor even now LOL. Transfers just didn't happen hardly ever back then. Never mind that the kid was going back to his home state of Kentucky, never mind that Mizzou was about to be placed on NCAA probation which was a big part of why Ford wanted to leave - our fans were still super mad. Part of it was Ford was really productive as a freshman on a very very good Mizzou team in 1990 ( video).

Its ironic though that the stop gap guy we signed to take his place, Melvin Booker, wound up becoming an All-American on an undefeated conference champion for Mizzou in 1994 and actually advanced a round or two further in the NCAA tourney that year than Ford did as a senior. Of course, Ford did get to go to the Final Four with Mashburn the previous year so I'm sure he was happy how it worked out on his end too.

The Newberry Award is for best in children literature, awarded each year to one author. I suspect he was teasing about length of MF in DA ATX posts. Which by the way, are always interesting and often humorous.

Ask your buddies in Austin. They're calling the shots.

Seriously, though.

I think the whole aTm split pissed Texas off. I think our Chancellor at Mizzou being the head of the Big12 Membership committee that was charged with keeping aTm in (when Mizzou was still in) and then leaving shortly after pissed our side of the Big12 off.

Will Mizzou/kU continue? Probably, once everyone whose egos were hurt leave positions of power.

Will Texas/aTm continue? Probably, same reason.

The egos you shite on in Austin by leaving the Big 12, I think we did the same type of damage by leaving the "forgotten" north teams after the Pac10 scare.

It was really just us four up north that were the odd men out if that whole thing went down, I think they thought we had a bond (as if anyone could have a bond with kU,) but when we left, I think it hurt them a lot.

We left them at the whim of tU, and if anyone can understand how much that would suck it's an Aggie.

I feel bad that you guys are getting caught in this. it seems like you guys would wish to continue playing them, no? when there are A LOT of people on both of our sides that are ok with this game not being continued for a very long time. hopefully Kansas will find a way to tell them to frick off and schedule you guys

frick them and their ugly, redlegged, six toed mothers.

frick them all. Every last one of those sun flower loving sons of bitches.

frick kU.

I don't get this at all. The whole MU/kU think has a real basis in history and war, but it's really kept alive by the fight over Kansas City. You guys fight over every city, how could a truce be a reasonable resolution for anyone?

Not trying to make the MU/kU thing seem like more than it is, but there's real hate there on both sides. Does that not really exist at the level of the MU/kU thing?

I guess in the end, you're all Texan, which has been shown before. So it could never really reach the levels, but yeah. I always saw that as a real hate situation.

both sides hate each other so much that they don't want to make it look like the other side was right. its 100% based in pride and hate of the other

Same shite. Texas can survive on its own.

kansas is fricked, we get that whole thing, plus the fact that we've hated each other for years based on shite outside of the university, plus we left them for dead.

I'd be the most unsurprised person in the world if Texas/aTm restarted before MU/kU.

considering you guys seemingly want to play them, hopefully that's not the case. cause it doesn't look like our game is coming back any time soon

Ours wont until yours does. However, that's based on the egos of the people involved. If everyone involved in the switch is gone (which is has to be in both cases) it will continue.

Ours will came a few years later.

Sounds about as Texan as it gets.

Ours is different. More of a Midwestern passive aggressive thing.
