They made a bowl game with a first year coach with a team that had quit on their previous coach. Strong is a no BS guy and it will (like it did Saban at Bama) take a few classes to get "his" guys in there and to get the team to buy in.

I agree

I think the route Strong took was a bold one as he is focused on getting the program's shite together first and foremost. But I do think the fail of Aggy will only propel them over the course of a few years.

unless the Texas Alum write a very big check, this ship is sinking fast and in a conference that allows the sinking ship to lead the fleet. Good job, Aggies. Way to gig it right up their arse. SEC!

Would not be a bad thing if the BIG 12 conference disintegrates and then a complete re-alignment of the power conferences takes place, wishful thinking but it needs to happen.
Big time D1 football needs to be aligned so it makes sense geographically, come on WVU in the BIG 12? MIZZOU in the SEC? Some fricks need to get together and figure this thing out.

I don't see Strong as a good fit at Texas. I see him being fired in a year or two and then getting someone who will turn it around

Just read an article in the Austin Statesman that perfectly captures the situation. Rather than pointing to: the obvious gaping void at QB, the lousy offensive play calling, rotten special teams play, etc., Coach Strong characterizes the problem thusly:
quote:
"At some point we've got to develop and get the pride back in this program," first-year Longhorns coach Charlie Strong said. "Texas has got to mean something. Right now it doesn't mean much."
Allow me to translate. In hornspeak, winning is described as some kind of esoteric formula (I.e., "Texas meaning something") that only they have the power to unlock and understand . It's never about them sucking. And rarely is it an issue of poor fundamentals.

Rather, it's about capturing their burnt orange hubris--that they should simply win as a result of who they are. (Charlie ... try recruiting some depth at QB, maybe?)

Then there's this gem:
quote:
"I just think those guys don't want to go out like this again," he said. "Six and seven isn't the standard at Texas and we all know that."

It's that kind of malarkey that continues to feed the beast and set em up for failure.
Y'all likely don't get it, but they genuinely think they're the best at all they do.

Finally, there's this:
quote:
"We just didn't execute," Swoopes said.

No tip of the hat to Arkansas' play.
No credit where it's due.
They just didn't execute.

Hypocrite, this is precisely what Aggies do.

Texas will be back. They are too much of a historic school to stay down for too long. It took Alabama 10 years and the right coach to do it, and Texas will do the same. They need a Saban type(not Saban though) coach to lead them back. It will take a coach that gives as much of himself and effort to the program. It is not always about the money, it is a coach that welcomes the challenge and willing to spend the time to get the job done.

I believe that they have a very good coach in Strong, and much like Bielema he stepped into a deeper mess than he realized.

To be honest, I would have been happy if we had hired Strong ourselves.

Just going to take him a while to turn that dumpster fire around, hope he gets enough time to do it.

Good post and good game, Razorback. Your team whupped our asses...PERIOD. Your tough, hard nosed team is what I hope Strong
builds this program into...sooner rather than later.

Recover from what? Texas has been mediocre way more often than they have been great.

There's a lot of truth in this. Although they won a lot of games in the '00's, Texas really hasn't been a dominant team since the seventies. I do think Strong will put them back on top, but it won't be easy with A&M, and other SEC schools, grabbing more of their recruits each year.

Will be back, but long road, and the worst part about it is there is no way now to know where the low point was (or will be).

Yea, so Texas only had 2 yards rushing, but that's 28 more then they had the last time we played them in a bowl game. They're making progress, I tell ya!

I never said Charlie Strong was the guy, but to say they will never recover is stupid.

Look at LSU in the 90's.

jesus you are dumb.

I would put money on this being strongs only losing season. mack brown tore down that program so badly. Even if Strong isn't the correct man for the job texas is never going to be dead to where they can't recover. They have the most money in football, they also have a recruiting hot bed. Until the population shifts and texas doesn't have d1 kids they will never be dead. This is so fricking stupid

you missed the really important thing they have, a conference full of dead-beats to bully.
