You're one of the few on here that gets it. When the Big XII eventually dies. TEXAS can name their conference.

Lots of focus on the "no" votes but that's only 1/3rd of why it will never happen.

Texas will never want to come to the SEC because they see the SEC as beneath them. They have always looked down on the SEC in terms of culture and academics and that isn't changing. They won't want to follow A&M either, they could not handle that. They also don't really want to be in a Conference with that many good teams which makes for too difficult of a schedule. Most of all the concept of being "equal" to other schools is foreign to them, they truly believe they are better than everyone else and should be treated as such. Folks in the SEC just think Bama runs things, Texas leaves no doubt when they are in a conference that you must kiss their ring.

The second reason not discussed is the politics of leaving. As long as Texas stays in the Big 12 then it is viable and thus it supports Tech, TCU, and Baylor. Texas simply can't take on all of those schools politically and screw them without severe consequences. Ironically there is only one way they could pull it off, to get the full throated support of A&M and its considerable political capital. If A&M is neutral, much less opposes Texas going to the SEC it simply isn't possible politically. Imagine if Ole Miss were to leave for another conference and then force State into the Sun Belt, only it is State plus 2 other Mississippi schools that would get screwed. No Power 5 would take Tech, Baylor, or TCU as a stand alone. Ever. They would only take them as a package deal and maybe not even then.

One last thought on the actual votes. In truth it wouldn't take 4 schools opposing Texas it would just take 1. There is no way the SEC would do it if one of the schools was truly and bitterly opposed to it. That's just not how the SEC operates or at least I have not ever seen it do so.

Personally if Texas were to come to the SEC there are worse things for A&M. We are big and strong enough now to be fine. The circumstances that would make Texas come to the SEC would make them effectively neutered just like their steer mascot.

They would not produce any revenue that would help the SEC, though. At least not with current bundling. Anybody in Texas who watches sports already gets the SEC Network. There are in-state and out-of-state prices for SECN, and Texas is already in-state.

Now if a la carte becomes a real thing, then you might have a point. But until it does, if the SEC is interested in expanding then NC and VA make much more sense.

Too many comments from so called millenials.

Texas is conference poison. No way shape or form do you people want them in the SEC.

The old guard AD's and presidents know this.

Will not happen.

16 programs in a conference isn't the optimal configuration. Historically it's a path to failure.

I think it would work well. Break the leauge into pods:

WEST
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Arkansas

WEST-CENTRAL
LSU
Ole Miss
Vanderbilt
Missouri

EAST-CENTRAL
Alabama
Tennessee
Kentucky
Mississippi St.

EAST
Georgia
Florida
South Carolina
Auburn

Everyone plays annually everyone else in their pod (3 games) as well as one extra cross-pod annual rivalry (1 game). These would be:

Alabama-Auburn
Tennessee-Vanderbilt
Florida-LSU
Ole Miss-Miss St
Texas-Georgia
Oklahoma-Missouri
Arkansas-Kentucky
Texas A&M-South Carolina

Every team would then play a 9-game schedule... so 5 opponents would rotate each year. So essentially you'd have 5 slots for the remaining 11 teams in the league... meaning you'd typically play most every team once every two years. The longest you would ever go between playing any single team would be 3 seasons.

Then do a mini-playoff. The pod champs would play semi-finals. Those winners would play a week later in the Championship Game.

So for instance, the WEST vs. WEST CENTRAL Champs would play every season in either Arlington, Houston, New Orleans, or St. Louis.

The EAST vs. EAST CENTRAL Champs would play ever season in either Atlanta, Tampa, or Jacksonville.

Then the Championship could rotate between Atlanta, Arlington, and New Orleans.

That'd be awesome.

The SEC doesn't need to be any tougher than it already is. At some point money takes a back seat to actually winning. Why any SEC at this point would be in favor of making their path to Atlanta more difficult is being short-sighted. This isn't XBox. Sure, it's fun to see your schedule loaded up with big time programs and bigger checks coming in, but eventually it becomes counterproductive.

You do not want Bevo and his followers in the SEC....especially if you are .....ALABAMA.

But, you really do not want them and their alumni. They are a cancer upon the earth

Texas is irrelevant and will not be coming to the SEC. It is bad enough we got the aggies, I would have to see the Bevo people try to invade the SEC.

As a Texas fan, you have a higher opinion of Texas than everyone else.

Texas needs the SEC more than the SEC needs Texas. We already own the state with ATM.

UT is not joining the SEC as long as it keeps the LongHornNetwork as the SEC will never let it have its own network. Not happening. Same thing with the Big Ten. Pac 12? Who cares.

"SEC would welcome Texas with open arms"

Absolutely not true. Texas A&M and Texas will never again be in the same conference. And Texas A&M has quietly built alliances within the SEC which could be used to block this.

McElroy is letting his mouth overload his arse.

Texas wants nothing to do with the SEC anyway.
