They are related because the Athens bar scene is so crazy even on weeknights, cops have been on high alert for years and don't really have a tolerance for underage drinking or anything like that. It's a joke amongst students that if you don't get arrested at least once in 4 years you're doing it wrong.

O good lord, hold on I need a minute to masterbate to Athens.

You mean it's a joke among students...like...at pretty much most colleges across america?

Only DeLoach and Bellamy are still with the team.

Tray Matthews is Auburn's problem now.

UGA is starting to resemble post-Communist soviet states, and/or Florida, with its lawlessness and moral callousness.

That LSU player was suspended until those charges were dropped, and there's a reason they were reduced. If the charges on Taylor get reduced wouldn't it seem that Richt overreacted by kicking him off? I have no problem with miles actually getting all the facts before making a decision like that.

Again, I never wanted to sling mud at the LSU player. There were other factors at play with Taylor. He was also one of the 4 double dipping check cashers. So he was already on his last leg. As far as I am aware, the LSU DB had never been in trouble before, so a reduction of charges and being allowed back on the team was probably warranted. However, what Richt is mainly referring to is the stigma. He is the easiest target of the jokes because of the discipline system in place at the school as well as his own. So naturally when that type of incident occurs at UGA is seems to get magnified as part of a greater issue.

Naw, i've thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Knoxville is a great place to go to college. But i've been down to athens a bunch of times and always had a blast too. I prefer Knoxville, but it's all opinion.

Every college has a great bar scene. It is what it is. Knoxville's bar scene just seems more prone to make players want to punch undercover cops. But to each his own.

But seriously, it is just a culmination of factors that go into some of the issues. A Davin Bellamy DUI coming from Athens downtown, is generally dealt with differently than some other schools might. I am not aware of any other school that has a mandatory 2 game suspension for a DUI arrest. If there is, I apologize in advance.

The real test is what becomes of his players at the next level. Anybody have any stats on that?

While we're pretty successful as far as producing guys for the NFL, UGA also has a pretty outstanding track record of graduating or having guys that jumped early return to finish their degrees. Recently, former player Paul Oliver killed himself and it really hit Richt hard. You may remember after the LSU game this past season how emotional he seemed. A lot of that had to do with finding out about Oliver that same week and he has been on a mission ever since to make sure his guys not only have everything they need to succeed beyond football but to also ensure that they network and stay int ouch with one another (Oliver apparently lost touch with all of his former friends and teammates). Richt has since started the Paul Oliver Network for all UGA football lettermen and this summer UGA held weekly career management sessions that brought in former players, financial advisors, former NFL execs, etc. to talk on different topics about what to expect when college football is over and how to responsibly handle your income, image, self, etc.

I honestly don't know. I get stuff like DUI's and stuff can happen to most anybody who makes a bad decision. But when you have guys like crowell getting arrested and having a gun with a filed off serial number, you kinda gotta wonder. Of course we did have the gas station incident, but that was 6 years and 3 coaches ago, so hopefully it was just a fluke.

DeLoach won't be suspended (last I heard, he was only involved in the check thing by name. I think he was the one that Lemay took his check and cashed it for him, IIRC). Bellamy will miss Clemson and USCe

"Just because we've got guys suspended isn't evidence we have a discipline problem," Richt said.

While I agree in principle, I disagree with his conclusion; the shear number of incidents indicates a discipline problem. This is not to say that other programs don't have the same problems; they certainly do. The problem for UGA is that our admins/athletic dept. have set higher standards of conduct and associated discipline when those standards are not met. What is missing is the daily discipline/mentoring to teach and enforce those standards. It's like a grade school teacher setting a target that every student will have at least a B average without working closely with students who would not otherwise attain a B average through typical teaching practices and their own volition. Bottom line: if you are going to set a stringent conduct standard, you must instill daily discipline to head off the incidents before they happen, otherwise the result will be what we have seen in the UGA football program: ongoing incidents and players kicked off the team every season.

Just want to make sure it doesn't get swept under the rug, like Richt talked about the other guys doing.
