better then Bryant?

Tough call. Coach Bryant hired CM Newton, Wimp Sanderson, Don Gambrill, and Sarah Patterson...but he also kept Hayden Riley plugged in first as head basketball coach and then as head baseball coach for far too long, because Coach Riley was a great football recruiter. And to compare fund raising and facility development today to what it was during Bryant's era is impossible. Coach Moore probably was a better AD than Coach Bryant.

I had a feeling that it was only a matter of time after I heard that he needed that lung transplant.

The good news is that he is finally at peace, and out of pain. Rest in Peace Coach Moore and prayers sent to your family.

I believe he had TEN National Championship rings in football as a player, coach or AD at Bama. Gotta be a record.

Met the man once before a game he was very gracious and busy as he was he took a minute to talk to myself and the others with me and had no sense of urgency to move along,he came across as very down to earth.

Very nice man he will be missed

Mal Moore took over at a rough time. Was hired in 1999 after Bob Bockrath was fired. Bockrath was mainly responsible for Gene Stallings resigning and was the one who hired Dubose, which set in motion the mess Mal Moore would have to clean up. I'd say Mal cleaned up nicely.

Coach Moore aquired 10 national championship rings and should have 18 SEC championship rings associated with the Alabama football team.

1961 - player
1964 - assistant coach
1965 "
1973 "
1978 "
1979 "
1992 "
2009 - AD
2011 "
2012 "

He has been with Alabama when they've won SEC Championships for 1961, 64, 65, 66, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 81, 89, 91, 1999, 2009, and 2012.

Seeing this one I also found Mal Moore discussing wishbone. I never knew UA went the whole wishbone time period (11 years) without a playbook. That's something.

Sorry, looking at wrong LINK. Left off 1999 and put in 2011. Corrected.

Wow, good find. That is crazy. I am sure even Bryant didn't expect to have that amount of success with the wish-bone. Seems as though he was trying to compensate for the personnel he had until he recruited players better fit for the old system.

Yeah, apparently whoever the QB was, called all his own plays based on his read and situation. I just wonder how he did this. How to know to go right, left, play-action pass, etc. How do you audible when there is no 'play' to begin with? Pretty amazing.
