It's funny how all the people who talk about how bad LSU is now (easier to beat than OM, Arky, etc), will be exactly the same ones who will say LSU is stupid for considering getting rid of Les.

Which is it? If LSU isn't even 2nd in the west any more, why shouldn't they fire the coach who is the reason why?
If the coach shouldn't be fired, then that means he has done a good job, which would NOT include falling behind teams like Arky and Ole Miss.

LSU has got 18 returning starters and the best running back in the nation. Miles has won a NC and played for another. Yeah, getting rid of him with that kind of team coming back would have been stupid. It was actually pretty stupid to even consider it.

However if he underachieves with this team, it's probably time to make a change because the table won't be set any better in the future than it is right now.

I think most people say LSU is bad when they try to compare them to Bama, which isnt fair because no school can compare themselves to Bama. Why I believe its stupid to get rid of Les is its hard to find coaches who can atleast guarantee atleast 9 or 10 wins a year. Thats why I thought it was dumb when Georgia got rid Mark Richt, you don't just throw away coaches who can keep your program in the conversation for a conference title because coaches like that are few and far between.

I'll watch it and hope it's a slobber-knocker defensive gem like the last GOTC.

garbage yardage??

One of the four teams was ole miss. So, I guess saban had in his second "D" to protect that rebel lead.

Another game was auburn. LSU beat them by over three scores. If any team gave up garbage yards VS them it was LSU.

LSU held aggies to seven points and fewer yards than the tide.

PLUS according to the tide nation it's second teamers all played starters minutes. They are all just as good as starters. No dropoff when they enter the game.

These are just some of the returning numbers. See if you can tell me bama's or LSU's.

Sacks per game

2.5 VS 2.25

tackles for loss per game

4.0 VS 3.8

Ints per game

.87 VS .67

Pass breakups per game

2.0 VS 2.5

Passes defended per game

2.9 VS 3.2

As for returning players those numbers seem pretty close to me.

OK genius splain this.

LSU and bama had SIX common opponents.

LSU held FOUR of the six to fewer yards than bama.

Points matter more than yards genius.
Bama had the no.2 scoring defense and no.3 total defense.
LSU had the no.41 (lol) scoring defense and no.25 total defense. Not to mention Bama led the SEC in sacks and INTs.
So NO LSU's defense wasn't comparable to Bama's last year and only a big LSU homer would think otherwise.
Now this year maybe be different so we'll see.

Even in areas where we weren't amazing, we still did better than LSU:

Fumbles recovered #66 Alabama #88 LSU
Passing yards allowed: #30 Alabama #65 LSU
Red Zone defense: #62 Alabama #86 LSU

And in every other statistical category:

3rd down conversion % defense: #7 Alabama vs #40 LSU
4th down conversion % defense: #13 Alabama vs #43 LSU
Defensive TDs: #8 Alabama NR LSU
First down defense: #15 Alabama #24 LSU
Rushing defense: #1 Alabama #17 LSU
Pass efficiency defense: #8 Alabama #51 LSU
INTs: #10 Alabama #78 LSU
Team Sacks: #3 Alabama #18 LSU
Team TFL: #24 Alabama #60 LSU
Turnovers Gained: #13 Alabama #91 LSU

2015 Alabama was better than LSU in all defensive categories listed on the NCAA website.

I'm talking strictly about the six common opponents. You know the ones where we each played them. Seems like that would be a better comparison than the whole season.

In those SIX games the LSU "D" gave a good account of themselves.

Don't forget what happened in '15 doesn't guarantee anything for '16. bama loses the majority of guys that made all those plays on "D" in '15. Not saying they don't return talent. They just aren't as deep as last year, especially in the front seven.

All those sacks and ints last year. Break it down to per game for returning players. You will be surprised by how close LSU's and bama's numbers actually are.

OMG you guys are seriously debating last year's LSU D vs Bama's

All you need to know: Steele's "leadership" allowed 7 teams to score 20+. This has never happened to LSU's D. Ever. Thankfully, Aranda is coming in now. The statistical differential for year one at each of his stops has been outstanding. We will at least be much improved. Maybe we will legitimately be able to have this debate after this year is done. We will see.

Similar talent. One coach is better than the other.

Dude just stop you will do anything to show a shred of credibility to your team. Let pull a year or a MAGIC number of games and see if my team is better. You lost last year and the 4 before it.

Keep thinking the defense won't be as good lol. Better Secondary, SAME EXACT OLB's, And take your pick for the middle, Allen, Hand, Frazier, Tomlinson, Payne. Oh and Foster, Evans, and Hamilton at ILB. Just stop.

The sec is theirs to lose every year until someone proves otherwise. No matter how much they've lost, how "shitty" their qb is, or how "suspect" their secondary is. It's the same song every year and they win the sec and usually the title

Front 7 recruiting, we need to catch up. we are on the right track hopefully we are close enough this year to pull it off.

There are huge bodies riding the bench at bama everyone and their mom was going all out to get. Guys that could have started almost anywhere right away

Bama averages more front 7 recruits in the composite top 100 than all but a few of the teams on their schedule have in their entire class (all positions).
That's not even including how good they have been evaluating and securing juco guys that don't get lofty rankings. Guys like reed and pettway.

I'm seeing bama's defensive numbers more in line with '14 than '15.
