Third team defense my man. Everyone knows Auburn's second team defense would start for 80-90% of the other SEC teams.

Auburn was ranked 5th nationally in passing defense until this week. OM throws the ball a lot more than most teams and skewed the numbers a bit. They also played against the second team defense for most of the second half.
ok? and y'all have played Georgia Southern who has thrown for under 400 yards the entire season. That didn't skew the numbers for Auburn? What about playing FCS Mercer? It works both ways.
If Auburn finishes the season with a top 5 pass defense, then we can talk.

As long as we can beat everyone else on the schedule without running the ball effectively or throwing it to the wide receivers, you're right. LSU got this.

First, is Guice back at full health?
Not even close

Are the guys on the Oline who got hurt back?
We're more hurt now than we were last week. We may start two true freshman at tackle this weekend.
quote:
So I am curious. Do any LSU fans think the offense is getting better via the eyeball test?
Not really. We saw a few new wrinkles this past weekend we hadn't seen before, but nothing I think the auburn defense can't handle.

Is this an issue of Canada and the new offense or is it personnel?
Due to injuries and transfers, we had 4 freshmen play on the OL at one point this weekend, our only All-American and the focal point of our offense is hurt (for the 2nd fricking year in row), and our QB and WRs are both collectively below average.
Hard to give Canada a grade with what he's having to deal with.

Is Etling the right qb for his system?
I think a DT would be better, but the only one we have is a true freshman and O has already decided he's red-shirting.
quote:
Do you think this weekend will show an improved LSU offense or will it be more in line with past weeks where LSU scored less than the average of other teams against the same competition?
More in line with what we've seen.

You had four freshman starting on that Oline?
Not starting, playing at one point, albeit it was literally for like a snap or two. 1 was a redshirt freshman.
LT Malone was out for a few series, C Clapp went out for a play or two, RT Weathersby went out for majority of game. Those 3 were all replaced by freshmen, Clapp a redshirt freshman in Cushenberry. Weathersby is unlikely to play this week from what I heard so starting OL will probably be:
LT: SR. Malone
LG: JR. Brumfield
C: JR. Clapp
RG: FR. Ingram
RT: FR. Charles
Ingram and Charles have been co-starters most of season, so at least they aren't inexperienced. Ingram ended up winning the RG job outright finally. Charles has played RG, RT and LT this season.

Honestly, even if Etling is great, that would have made it tough.
Surprisingly UF couldnt take advantage. They had 2 sacks and 2 hurries. By comparison we had 5 sacks and 3 hurries against UF.

Brennan is the number two qb, correct? He seems to have tremendous talent, but looks a little small to be playing this year.
He put on some considerable weight before the season, yes, he was THAT thin previously. He's probably about 6'4 180-185ish right now, they list him at 193. Honestly, FSU is playing a true freshman who is 6'5 165 so if Etling has no trust from the coaches just get the next guy more looks. Why have a senior QB out there to manage the game when all he's doing in the 4th quarter is handing the ball off and thinking he's Cam Newton running the ball?

I can see why it might be argued to put him in, but I caught a little bit of the FSU/Miami game and he almost got killed in it.
If you need more of a DT because of the line, I would think Narcisse would be the guy, especially if you are looking for someone who can scramble. I hated we lost him.

I think the jury is out here. O would have you believe that he might be healthier than he appears and the issues are a confidence thing. If that is the case I'd say he might be better next week. I'm more inclined to thing O is full of shite just like everything else.
quote:
Are the guys on the Oline who got hurt back?
No...both starting tackles are hurting. It is possible we start freshmen at both tackle spots.
quote:

The only thing that I saw last week is that our O-Line seemed to play a little more physical last week than previously in the season. I assume if you hear you suck day after day after day that probably pisses you off. I hope it keeps up.
quote:
Is this an issue of Canada and the new offense or is it personnel?
It's an injury issue but the biggest issue is O....according to what he says he is hands off now. Like I said earlier until I see otherwise I take everything he says as bullshite though.
quote:
Is Etling the right qb for his system?
No he is not the right QB for any system. He missed throws on Saturday that I watch made more often than not in 3A, 4A, and 5A on Friday nights.

If I'm being honest I don't think it is going to be pretty. The only thing that I think we can hope for is that our offensive line stays tough and the jet sweeps take you off guard. I can't see that type of offense fooling a defense that practices against a Malzahn offense though. If I were Auburn I'd have 8-9 men in the box from snap 1....it was quite clear that Canada was scared to call pass plays in the 2nd half last week....I don't see that changing.

Doesn’t really matter about all that. Etling and co have to do just enough to get us in that 20 point range to win.
Defense will win this game for either side. Stidham isn’t coming and throwing for 300 and 3 touchdowns.
Have u watched the Barn's D. Etling and co aren't going to sniff 20pts. LSU will be lucky to get to double digits.

Heh, we used to have long threads about Gus and his disclosure of injuries or other issues. I don't think O is unusual in that regard.
I think we will definitely be without Pettway. TBH we played him when we should not have two weeks ago.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said If given time he is accurate but he is usually running for his life half the time, so yeah...odds are that won't happen Sat night.
