No. Auburn is going to kill Etling.

I'll give Etling one thing: he's a tough SOB. Almost never slides.

Yeah, that would seem like a recipe for disaster.

It sounds like maybe the biggest problem for LSU is the Oline, then?

If LSU had to play four freshman, I would assume that means the starters are banged up. Again, this might explain why Florida held LSU to 17.

At one point in the game we had 3 playing, but that's the most. Ingram is full time right guard, he is a decent run blocker but just makes too many mistakes because of his inexperience. Charles is a back-up tackle that played because Weathersby was out. Hes a pretty good pass protector for a true freshman, but he's still a true freshman. Deculus is the other who got in when Malone got hurt, he looked pretty slow and lost.

Brennan is the back up, he is uber talented, just needs time to learn reading college defenses, he would excel in a simple 1 or 2 read offense.

he is a tough player, and he's done better with running the ball this season.

in many of the running situations against Florida, Etling couldn't slide because he was aiming for the 1st down.

Been the problem all year.

If we can effectively run the ball, we can win. If we can’t, Etling isn’t an efficient enough passer to win the game solely on his arm

Easily. LSU had 6 offensive linemen leave the team between Orgeron's hire and the start of the season.

We postured like it wasn't a big deal, but deep down most of us knew it could be a huge problem.

we are a pretty bad football team, but maybe not quite as bad as we feared

Florida may not be good this year, but a win in the swamp is always a positive, in my view.

Sounds like there will be a push to get some big ole guys for the Oline this off season.

Also, I had heard Key was playing awful, but in the limited time I got to watch the Fl game, he did not look bad at all.

Tiny bit, yes

Is Etling the right qb for his system?
No, LSU won't beat really good teams with Etling. He's a great kid with limited ability.

It is what it is

I think the jet sweep to Gage was working well

Not really. Early on, a lot of that could be attributed to a new offense. And I have not had as many chances to watch LSU play this year. I saw the end of the Troy game, some of the Syracuse one and parts of the Florida game.

AU had bad offensive production at first, but a lot of it was things like turnovers and really bad oline play.

But, yeah, it seems to me after reading the responses here that the Oline is in major trouble and that is a really hard fix for LSU to pull off during the season.

Beyond the talk about Etling showing a lot of grit (which doesn't necessarily complete passes or outrun SEC DBs, last time I checked), honest LSU fans were pleasantly surprised that the team as a whole, but the O-line in particular, showed fight in the fourth quarter against the swamp lizards. That's the kind of thing that can carry a team like LSU right now...

Gage definitely runs it the best, I like when they give it to him. I just hate running that play from under center. When we don't block the DE to the play side on purpose, we are essentially banking on the other teams defense making a mistake. I just hate that.

No, Auburn will win if Etling is the QB. I do not fault his desire or willingness to play, but he just does not have it between the ears and his arm is not SEC quality. He basically still makes freshmen mistakes.

Guice is still no 100%. Does not have his normal burst, but at the end of the game against Florida, he started to show flashes of his old self. I am hoping he is healing.

Many other threads to talk trash in if you want.

Honestly, I think LSU loses this game, but that is not the season for LSU, and there will still be a lot left to play for.

It just seems like quite a challenge to fix what sounds like personnel shortages on that Oline, especially with a guy like Guice not at 100% and a qb who is taking a lot of hits.
