The lowlife, nothing to live for, trashy segment of the Auburn fanbase (see BowlJackson above) will meet you at Sonic and fight you to the death over such a claim. These little victories are all they have.

Every Bama coach knows that once you can't even beat LSU every year, it's time to move on.

If that was true, it would be an insult to LSU.

Not that I expect you to understand why.

I remember listening to that game on the radio at deer camp. Collier was a hell of an athlete. Worked with a guy that played tight end (I think) on that team.

Collier was the first DeShaun Watson. Would have beaten Bama in '81 also, except for Bryant calling time out with 3 seconds left. Down 10-13 they were goal to go with no time outs and not enough time to send in FG unit. Bryant called it for them and they elected to go for the FG and tie. Would have won the game with one second left, just like Watson did, if Bryant had not called the time out.

Doesn't matter. Your name, IP address, and Zip Code has been recorded. The closest Sonic will be located via Google Maps. You will be receiving a text message shortly with its coordinates along with instructions to wait there until BowlJackson arrives. He'll probably fail to show up though since mom does Pilates on Fridays and can't give him a ride until later in the afternoon.

Reggie Collier was a great QB and athlete.
The 1980 State team that beat Bama 6-3, lost to USM 42-14 earlier in the season at Scott Field on homecoming no less.

Those USM teams under Bobby Collins in the early '80's had some talent, Sammy Winder, Hanford Dixon, Bud Brown , all future NFL players along with Collier and others were really good.
He was the first Newton, Marshall, Watson QB who could do it all and had a charisma about him as well.

I think the record is pretty clear that the USM game loss was the impetus for the Bear to retire and LSU and Auburn losses had an cumulative effect on his decision.

There you go.

Why didnt you include the next sentence...

But later in the week he added that he was ready to coach until he was 80 or 90 years old if he got the right results.

Well I wish Bowl luck, but it is almost 30 miles to the nearest Sonic from here (ikr?).

Not only did LSU retire him, LSU buried him as well!

It's hard to believe he died so soon.
Not get to enjoy life after football.
But maybe he didn't want to know life without football.

I was at those games, as I was a student at USM during the Reggie era. Those were great games. I distinctly remember us beating the holy hell out of Florida State as well during that period. Seems like it was Homecoming game. Lots of alcohol during that period has clouded my memory, but those were great times to be on that campus. I remember Marcus Dupree being on campus for about one day before high tailing it for greener pastures.

I even had a shirt that said "I was there when we beat the Bear", sold on campus after the Bama victory. Did not feel much like wearing it after Bryant died though.

No, he made a decision AFTER the LSU GAME. His decision could have been changed if things turned around. So you had a part. But LSU made him say that "he was ready to step aside."
