ANYBODY that thinks LSU will be able to maintain the level of baseball they have enjoyed for 25 years is very uniformed. I heard an interview with Well once and he said that THIS was the reason they became dominant. This is HUGE news for LSU baseball. They now will see how it is to work with 11.7 or whatever it is. You get a lot of kids from Baton Rouge because they can live at home. It hampers recruiting and the pool you can sign tremendously. Vandy and Florida will be the new standards in baseball.

With that said, once they se the baseball team slip they will make arrangements for athletes to still receive TOPS.

Truth is every aspect of the budget is tied to something except Education and Healthcare which can be slashed. They will have to undo those portions of the constitution so that budget maneuvering can be more balanced and go back to the oil & gas companies to get a better deal for leases that is tied to their revenue and not just the value of the land which apparently is still not happening now, IMO.

State funded, merit based scholarships in LA had an income cap from 1989-1997. In 1997, the income cap was removed and TOPS because a viable tool for non-major sports at LSU.

LSU won the College Word Series in 1991, 1993, 1996 and 1997. The foundation was laid with CWS appearances in 1986, 1987 and 1989.

You'd think after all the political posturing between King Alexander and Bobby Jindal in Spring '15 that it would have had some effect on LSU's enrollment numbers?

Now we see the new Governor using the scare tactics this time in 2016. Do the kids/parents care or do they see this as a bunch of politicians blowing smoke out their arse?

Well, that's the problem with TOPS in its current format. Kids don't have to bust their arse to get it. At all.

I do agree that kids currently in college with TOPS should have been grandfathered in. But that wouldn't save the state as much money RIGHT NOW.

If they ever did decide to end the program it should be a phase out over a decade long period so families can have time to plan and adjust their savings for their kids college education.

That's just pretty unrealistic in Louisiana.

No. The name changed to TOPs in the late 90s. Started as the Taylor Plan in 89, then changed to TAPs, then TOPs. How old are you man? I was on that shite in '90.

Both of those programs had an income cap.

TOPS with the income cap removed started in the late '90s, the program was broadened and all Louisiana students became eligible.

That's what I'm talking about.
