It may have run its course but yanking it from families that have counted on it and kids that have busted their arse to earn it without any notice would be devestating. It's not sports related; there are thousands of families that will be effected if tops stops. If they ever did decide to end the program it should be a phase out over a decade long period so families can have time to plan and adjust their savings for their kids college education.

LSU is bringing in attention to themselves and this is not good. If the school and team cannot get their money under control then the risk reward starts to become unbalanced and the SEC may have to make a move before LSU blows it for everybody. There will probably be NCAA sniffing around to see how funds are being spent and shite will be uncovered. Likely minor things like everyone else but you never know. Hope you get it under control because as much as I hate you there is no reason for me to want to lose a team in the SEC. It's more fun to talk shite to you than not having you around at all. Good luck. Btw I hope a bowl ban is in your future. Get fricked

I love these type of threads. It always shows how stupid some people on this board are. It's like you just inserted LSU in your argument who you meant the state of louisiana.

It's almost like you don't know there is a difference.

I was actually quite disappointed even before I pressed send. But in reality it might now be a bad idea. Turn it into a private school because yet again a government run program cannot learn how to run efficiently. Smdh. When will you guys ever learn.

The NCAA is going to sniff around the governor's office to uncover how state funds are being spent?

The only connection this has to LSU athletics is that some athletes in non-major sports have partial scholarships through the TOPS program. The governor's threat to shut down LSU, thereby making football players ineligible, exposed the absurdity in the entire threat.

This is the same BS that was pulled last year and nothing happened after it all settled. Let them shut down the football season and see how the university fells when they don't get that $7 million dollar check from the athletic department in the summer. This is all political posturing.

well yeah anyone with a brain knows that louisiana politics is played out through the media all the time and these type of threats are nothing new but logic doesnt make for a good thread.

however, the situation does appear worse than last year. there will need to be some hard decisions made towards cuts and/or creating new revenue.

Its not that players are ineligable. If you don't have a school then you are not part of the NCAA.

Yeah, I would think all Texans should feel the same way. We all know why this is happening and it's going to impact far more than Louisiana and Texas soon enough. I'm involved in the industry and am all too familiar with the grim forecast.

Lots of folks outside the industry in Texas (and probably Louisiana too) just make dumb comments about how great the cheap gas prices are without realizing what it means for the state and local economy as a whole

Then why would the NCAA sniff around LSU?

I think you are starting to uncover the absurdity in JBE's threat.

His comments only mentioned LSU. Even more specifically, his comments targeted LSU football. He has the entire state higher education budget to manipulate and he is going to start with LSU? Not a chance. So his threat is to shut down higher education in Louisiana for an entire semester. Absurd.

Jindal wasn't on the ballot.
I don't live in Louisiana.
