Someone should tell her that the finest doctors on The Rant have already issued a discouraging prognosis and she should join us in panic.

However, Mike Pettine left the door open for Mack's return in 2014 during his Monday news conference. The coach said if the damage is limited to a break, Mack's timetable could be 8-10 weeks. He is expected to make a full recovery

What does this have to do with anything???

We do know the difference between a fracture and a break don't we? There must not be a med school at A&M...

Injuries suck. Fall camp injuries suck even more. Sorry to hear this and hope he heals quickly.

My cousins kids played with him at Desoto. I saw him in high school and he is a great kid. All the best to him.

Brilliant. That made me laugh.

Feel bad for the kid, but despite as good as he is, if Jefferson is taking his place I don't feel bad for the team like I would if a lineman or Harris or Buga went down. Jefferson would be starting basically anywhere else.

Besides it evens us out with some of the other teams with injuries. We don't want the other teams' fans pulling the injury card after we stomp their guts out on the field, then jump up and down on their heads, then feed them to Mike. Just saying.

So to split hairs, a break is a degree of a fracture. Much longer recovery and commonly requires surgery and is more likely to have ligament involvement.

There is separation of the bone in a break also known as a displaced fracture.

Not sure if mentioned, but Mills slides inside and plays the nickel, too. We are okay at safety with Jefferson. I am worried about the nickel position thou.

There is seperation of the bone in a break. There are different degrees of both a fracture and a break but in a break the bone needs to be set, doc...

quote:

First a few quick definitions.

Broken, cracked, or fractured all mean the same thing, that the integrity of the bone is no longer intact. One term is not worse than another. How many times have people thanked me that their ankle wasn't broken, just fractured! I have to remind myself to do the definition list at the bedside as well.
Fractures can be displaced or non-displaced, and this attempts to explain whether the bones are aligned properly. Some amount of displacement is allowed depending on which bone is broken and where in the bone the break occurs. The body can remodel bones as they heal, so displaced does not automatically equal having to "set" the bones.
Setting means reducing or realigning the bones so they look and function better. The vast majority of fractures that have to be reduced will have that procedure done under anesthesia. And sometimes, bones that appear well aligned right after the injury may move and then require reduction later on.
Finally, if the skin over the fracture is lacerated or torn, this is considered an open fracture and will need to be cleaned out, because outside world has invaded the break and the risk of infection is high.

quote:

A fracture is a broken bone. A broken bone is a fracture.

While many people believe that a fracture is a "hairline break," or a certain type of broken bone, this is not true. A fracture and a broken bone are the same thing!

Both of these words mean that the normal bone structure has been disrupted.

a fracture is the SAME thing as a "break". A "broken bone" is just slang.

A fracture is literally the medical term for a broken bone. that's it.
