It's a pretty big blow. i wont speculate on the estimated time out since no one knows the severity of the injury.

could just be a hairline fracture.

Rickey Jefferson is a playmaker but Mills is the captain of the secondary/defense as a whole. He'll be missed if he has to miss conference games.

Huge blow no doubt but we have depth there. If it would be a starter on our DL we would be completely facked

In all honestly, it should be no big deal to DBU.

Maybe captain wasnt the proper word. But he was going to be in charge of lining the defense up i'm pretty sure. He and Beckwith.

Did they say anything about the severity of the break? If its just a hairline it could only be 4-6 but if it was a full break he could be out longer. Either way sucks for the kid.

Fracture, to me, implies that its not a "full" break. The 4-6 week timeline didn't come out until after the team doctors had seen him, the rumors flying around this morning all made it seem like he was done for the year.

While LSU has equally talented players who can step in for Mills, losing his expierence and versatility is a big deal.

quote:

The 6’1?, 194-pound Mills is a defensive coordinator’s dream as he adds about as much value as you can get out of one player. With today’s multiplicative defensive schemes, safeties have to be able to “fill the alley,” act as a single-high player in Cover 1 schemes, fill in for “Sam” or “Will” linebackers in sub packages and, most importantly, act as nickel corners when teams go to “10,” “11,” or “oo personnel” groupings.

I can’t emphasize just how versatile Mills is as he can truly be used in an interchangeable safety scheme as he’s a very talented tackler in space. The Tigers are able to provide multi pre-snap looks by aligning Mills close to the line of scrimmage or pushing him back single-high. This is significant as quarterbacks routinely become creatures of habit and can get used to seeing certain personnel in specific spots; changing up looks lends itself to the versatility of the Tigers’ roster.

I understand all Injuries are different. But i broke my fibula in August one year and didnt walk till November.

Gotta factor in that you probably had a case of vaginitis to go with it. Bad combo.

Still, that means LSU will be playing Ed Paris and Kevin Toliver in dime. That's a lot of inexperience on the field at the same time.

Paris and Toliver are fighting for the #2 corner spot and are big time ready. Dwayne Thomas is there too.

we'll be fine. Mills wasn't playing any corner anyway.

I'll go ahead and guess his first game back will be against Alabama in November.

Incorrect. The coaches stated that Mills would slide down in nickel as the 3rd corner and Jefferson would come in at safety.

Now, Dwayne Thomas will likely be the nickel back with Toliver/Paris being the dime.

Losing Mills would be a hit to any team...one hell of a ball player. Hopefully he's not sidelined too long, or can pick up a medical red-shirt (worse case) if the injury is too severe.

Of course that could just be a case of "no mama, your baby is fine." But we'll get to the bottom of this soon.
