False - as an ole miss fan, I'll take it you didn't go to y'all's bowl game here. Birmingham has a lot going on and clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.

It's where MSU, an SEC school, agreed to play UAB in a regular season game.
Again. I was at the game in 2006 or 2007 when MSU played UAB at Legion Field.

I like Bham and know can find a lot of stuff to do there, but there's nothing around the stadium but ghetto. You can tailgate in the parking lot, but that's about it.

We used to tailgate in the public housing complex behind the stadium with some of the residents. Some of the best times I had while a student at Bama.
Besides, the area around Legion Field really isn't that bad. I never felt unsafe going to games there.

but man was it a fun place to go to games as a student. I loved going to games there
I hated it! I mean the road trip aspect was kinda cool if you double dated but much funner being in T-Town where you could go to band parties right after the game or just hang out and drink and not worry about being stuck in traffic.

I never did either, but you still have to cross I-65 to find something to do.

Neutral site games are en vogue again and they let Legion Field become an after thought. Oh well. Charlotte, Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas are fun places to go see neutral site games.
And every one of those cities use it to draw in tourist, because they lack any other drawing points (maybe Nashville). Birmingham doesn't claim to be a tourist destination and local support for a game this time of year would be minimal.

Only if it was on Saturday going up against the Alabama and/or Auburn games. They put it on Thursday, Friday, or Sunday, and get two big name programs from outside the SEC, and it'd be a HUGE draw. This town is starving for some college football right now, and if there were a college football game here tomorrow night, demand for tickets would be huge.

Do they play high school games there?
Posted on 8/27/14 at 11:28 am to roguetiger15
They used to, but I don't think they do anymore. There was a game there a few years ago between two local high schools where there were a bunch of fights and allegedly some gunshots. I forget all the details, but apparently most of those arrested weren't associated with either school.

so they don't use it for anything?

ah gotcha forgot about them

And the Magic City Classic between Alabama State and Alabama A&M is played there every year. It's always one of the top revenue weekends for the city.
Also I think the SWAC Championship Game is played there.

Good money after bad. It needs to be torn down and a new stadium/dome need to be built near the UAB part of town. The new Baseball stadium downtown has been a great success.

With the new coach UAB got, I think they will do at least a little work on the stadium. He's already gotten them to redo many of the on campus facilities.

UAB released plans a few years ago about building their own on-campus stadium but have since scratched them, prob money i guess.
