Georgia Tech dominated the game and was clearly the better team, that's why.

Tennessee got the W but it's clear they are not a good football team.

If a mediocre ACC team is better than you, you've got issues.

O-line had a bad first quarter but really settled in after that.

Eh, I don't know if I would go that far. Callaway really helped him. He showed some horrible mechanics at times. There were some notable drops and Oline struggled at times so it certainly wasn't all him.

Yea, I didn't think Dormady was very good at all last night. He made 3-4 gamechanging bad decisions throwing the ball into multiple defenders (sometimes even more than 2). Callaway made a couple great catches on jump balls. He also kept throwing the ball while leaning back onto his heels.

He got better as the game progressed, but he still didn't look great. The fade TD pass was nice, though.

Tennessee' state Dline was playing several feet off the LOS in order to prevent injuries, so it's not surprising that dive plays were working. I'm waiting to pass judgment on our defense until we start playing traditional offenses.

25-8 last 33 games

And 26-14 over the last 3 complete seasons plus last nights game. And that means nothing.

Tennessee is a better football team than they looked like last night. GT could make anyone look bad, at least for a while. When Tennessee HAD to stop GT, they did so. Easily. That being said, I still hate them. Or rather, just can't stand Butch Jones. He just looks smarmy or sketchy or something. Of course, that sort of thing didn't keep me from pulling for Ole Miss the last several years.

If I was a UT fan, I think the most discouraging thing would be how successful Tech was with the dive. I would have thought UT would be able to hold the interior point of attack without too much trouble.

They were manhandled by an 8-win team for 90% of the game... embarrassing my be too strong a word, but it was not a good showing. I'd be pretty down today if I'm a Vol.

Wasn't Tennessee an 8 win football team last year? Tennessee was at the bottom of the top 25. Tech is probably about in the 40ish range. They won. And for reference, 9 teams last year finished with 4+ loses and finished the season ranked. Auburn finished the season with 5 losses and remained ranked. Reading some of the posts in a lot of these threads, what do people expect from a borderline top 25 team? Why do they seem to be held by the standards of a top 10 team? And why is Ga Tech seemingly being treated as if they are a team like Louisiana Monroe? They were a 9 win team last year.

Sure UT's run defense looked soft and the coaches did a piss poor job at preparing them for the game given how long they had to prepare. But there is nothing "embarrassing" about a 14 point 4th quarter comeback win against a solid P5 opponent.

Bc they let GT go 13 of 18 on 3rd down

no, it was more due to Tennessee allowing Tech to get 6+ yards on first down as much as they did in the first half. You have to minimize their gains on first down with the offense they run. Tennessee didn't do that early, and then their defense was gassed. Tennessee also had 5 or 6 drops in the first half, shortening drives, and keeping their defense on the field even longer.

Vol fan here,
Honestly, I feel great. I figured we would be a 7-5 to 8-4 team and we got a win I had as a toss-up. Considering expectations were higher last year and we almost lost to App St in the opener, I will take last nights win.Honestly, besides Bama, nobody on our schedule looks great. I feel 8-4 or better is realistic.

Guise, beating a team that had a pillow fight vs. Portland State the previous week was way more impressive.

Guice will run the ball down Tennessees throat all night long this year. Seriously. He may have 500 yards alone.

They are a middle of the pack/above average SECE. team.

FIFY

They would get demolished by every team in the west except maybe A&M and that game would be a toss up.

What was embarrassing was how the Dline got handled.

I didn't watch the 2nd half, but I was surprised how much this was true in the first half.

There'd be a scrum at the line, the GT fb or qb would get into the mess and go down, and based on where all the linemen were, I'd have thought it was no gain or 1 yd. But it would be 4-5 yds each time. GT was just moving the Tennessee D Line back all over the place... nobody was holding ground, much less penetrating.

Determination may be back in Knoxville after a 10 year hiatus.

I agree that they were outplayed most of the game but I do applaud their lack of quit. They never stopped playing.

Looking at you aTm.

They beat a team that won 9 games last year and was picked to finish 3rd in their division at a neutral site. Georgia Tech will win 7-8 games this year and be a solid team. They didn't go to overtime with South Alabama or North Texas.

People are acting like their performance is on the same level as Texas A&M and Florida. I don't get it.

That's funny, I thought GT was embarrassing. TN will be around .500 or a little better, Tech went 90 minutes without stopping them once.

There is really nothing to be happy about other than UT is 1-0. To me the most concerning aspect is that I don't see a whole lot of talent outside of a couple players at a program that should out talent GT in every spot. If everything is equal, Paul Johnson has proven that his offense is unstoppable. When the other team clearly has better players they usually beat GT handily. Another concern I would have if I were a UT fan would be the lack of creativity in both sides of the ball. There is no deception to help mask the talent deficiencies that are clear to me. Lastly, Butch Jones is a complete goob with all his gimmicks. I understand PJ Fleck at WMU going complete cornball to motivate his players but UT should be above that. It's insanely embarrassing.

If Tech's QB hits the wide open guy streaking to the end zone late in the game - you are calling for Butch's head.
