Their Oline played well, their RB is really good, Callaway is really good, and literally everything else about their team is average at best.

So.......turns out they are probably a 8-4, borderline Top 25, Top 30 type team? Which is exactly what everyone said they would be before the game?

UT did what they had do to get a Win, it wasn't pretty. If they don't do something about that defense, some SEC teams are going to murder them on the ground.

UT is going to have to find some answers and I think they will. I thought their defense would be ready with Shoop and Hoke. It was a good win though, something to build on. I watched the game and UT has got them some stud players. They'll improve and will be a tough out for anyone not named Alabama.

It was an ugly, and lucky win. But it's still a win against a very tough opponent to prepare for. Tech under Paul Johnson makes even good defenses look bad on a regular basis.

That said,

I'm not happy about the defensive performance, at all. Will reserve final judgement until we face a more conventional offense.

Pretty much. They will get handled by top 10 teams, but will be competitive against everyone else... This is just the rant so people will use this as an opportunity to make fun of them for giving up school records on defense.

It's been a long offseason, and people want to make fun of other teams ASAP, no matter how flimsy the reasoning for doing so.

Huge part of it, they were the only game on last night so they are going to get more attention. If this game happens Saturday, it isn't seen as big of a deal.

Tennessee was also just so inconsistent during the game.

Because, honestly, until GT's failed 2 pt conversion, GT manhandled UT like a ragdoll. That's why it's embarrassing. Props to UT for coming back at the end, at least, but I have to put their overall performance in the same basket as Texas A&M and Florida's openers. UT was at least the best of the worst, but that's because they didn't lose the game like the other aforementioned teams.

I was responding to the person who was acting like it wasn't a better performance. I was pointing out the obvious to him.

If I was a UT fan, I think the most discouraging thing would be how successful Tech was with the dive. I would have thought UT would be able to hold the interior point of attack without too much trouble.

Yea - there were certainly signs of trouble. Dormandy also threw 3-4 balls that could have easily been intercepted and seemed to be throwing falling backwards the entire night.

Yeah, Tech's QB set school records for rushes, yards gained, and TD's by a QB.

Tennessee's pass defense also looked very suspect.

Tenn is not good, and it has now been confirmed for yet another year.

Congrats on the W and all.

Butch actually makes me feel good about O...and that is saying a lot.

It would've been a different game had Dormady found his rhythm earlier and kept our D off the field. That said, given that his prior reps were extremely limited and he lost Jennings early (the only WR with prior experience) he did pretty damn well.

You can't allow your Defense to be on the field for 50 minutes and expect pretty stats. Fortunately, our offense emerged and did the work in their 18 minutes on the field. This was a terrible matchup for a QB that had practically no real time reps or experience and yet he managed to pull it off.

They were manhandled by an 8-win team for 90% of the game... embarrassing my be too strong a word, but it was not a good showing. I'd be pretty down today if I'm a Vol.

Imagine how the Yella Jackets feel today.

They're in for a long year, especially with their best receiver out.

Guise, beating a team that had a pillow fight vs. Portland State the previous week was way more impressive.

Kentucky, a team many otb feel is a program on the rise and a popular pick to win or challenge for the East played a one possession game against a team not expected to even be competitive in C USA.

VOLS did play poorly but I don't think anyone went in to that game thinking this team can compete with Bama or tOSU.

Eh, I don't know if I would go that far. Callaway really helped him. He showed some horrible mechanics at times. There were some notable drops and Oline struggled at times so it certainly wasn't all him.
