LSU has serious lack of experience at DE
Yes. More so unproven than unexperienced. They have played some, just not a ton in any games.

and behind Gilmore and DG at DT.
Gilmore is the unproven one. Godchaux is a stud. Christian Lacouture is a returning starter and is pretty solid. After them we have Thomas who is also good. But Gilmore and a cast of others are largely unproven.

VOLS have more players on Bednarik Award watch list than any other SEC team.
VOLS return more starters than any other team.
VOLS should be top four at least. #1 with a bullet in 2016.

My fellow gator, you don't just SCHEME away two 10+ sack players that line up on opposite sides of the LOS. What are you going to do, double team them both?
Teams will probably try running right at Tennessee, that is the best bet. I think UT is a year away from being dominant against the run though, so I wouldn't put them top 3 in scoring, but certainly not bottom 3. They were 24PPG allowed last year, which isn't terrible, and they'll probably improve on that.
I'm going Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia for the top 3 though.
Florida, LSU, and Arkansas all could make an argument to be in there though.

Who do you have behind Barnett and Maggitt? A bunch of freshman and barely used SOs. You maybe starting true freshman at DT. Outside of JRM at LB, the rest are average at best and Cam Sutton is your only good DB. Your defense will blow once teams scheme for Barnett and Maggitt. It is what it is.
quote:You are aware we bring back Danny O'Brien and Owen Williams correct? McKenzie and Tuttle will play a lot but we have alot of experience returning there.

This is just where you are uninformed with our roster. There has been a lot of talking recently about how deep our linebackers are. They are young but coaches are already talking about the need to keep recruiting LB's because we have several guys that will only be here 3 years before they head off to the NFL.

We had the 4th best pass defense in the conference last year and return every single player except Coleman who was our worst starter.

I'm usually pretty realistic with my expectations on LSU football. Hell, I've been called a nega-tiger on our own board. But you obviously don't know shite about LSU's D this year if you think they will be the worst in the conference. Go look at the depth chart and come back..

Alabama
Ole Miss
Georgia
I was going to say Arkansas, but I think they'll get edged out (barely), because UGA plays an easier conference schedule (but tougher overall one). Missouri will likely have a pretty good offense, but I'm not seeing it (yet) in Tennessee; UGA, OTOH, drew Alabama and Auburn from the West. That ALMOST makes up for the difference between the East and West, but not quite.

LSU is only going to allow 6.2 points per game this year. That's a pretty good scoring defense if you ask me.

Another case where stats can be skewed. Teams with average Offenses will have better Defensive stats than their talent shows. Once teams get up on them, they slow down the game in order to stay fresh for the season and reduce injuries.

I might eat my words but the only thing that will keep LSU's defense from being at the bottom is their talent and depth... Hiring Steele was probably one of the most mind boggling things Miles has done and that's saying something... The DC job at LSU could have pulled a great defensive minded coach but Miles decided to go with Steele...

In no order...
Louisiana State
Mississippi
Florida
Up there: Arky, UGA, Bama

Literally laughed out loud when I read that
Me, too! The Chief's insane insistence to keep on plugging in Welter at MLB meant LSU was soft up the gut.
DJ Welter's "highlight reel" consists of him trying to arm tackle a runner after being out of position.
Every...single...play.
Edit: I don't mean to bag on the young man. He was trying his best. Not his fault if his coaches continually put him in position to fail.

BAMA
LSU
UF
BAMA seems like they are almost a lock , if they go back to a pro style offense that could help. LSU and UF both have talented defenses and should have more of a rushing offense to help the defense.
