This is always a stupid exercise, but I can't let it go without saying that I strongly disagree with some of those. It's not a bad list, but some schools are much higher then they should be.

Anyone claiming Texas isn't the top job is just being ridiculous. If Texas is winning they have their pick of any kid in the state.

Yep. The problem with Texas is dealing with their boosters. It's not enough to be a great head coach in Austin.

I know that seems ridiculous, but who would you say is the best conference right now?

Barry Switzer was on a radio show not long ago and they asked him this question
He said Texas is the alpha male job and it's amazing to him how they aren't dominate year in and out. Endless resources, great school, great city and best recruiting ground within 200 miles of anywhere in country
It really is number 1
I'd say Ohio state, Bama, Michigan, ND, USC are up there too

Yeah I'm not sure what people are missing with Texas.
The fact that they were even able to get a convo going with Saban is amazing.

Jesus you seem upset about the big mean bama fans. In regards to the OP you can't rank jobs like this because there is little to no difference between the Texas, Alabama, and USCw jobs. As there is little difference between UGA, LSU, and Florida State as a job. It needs to be tiered.

Looks fine to me, but you rarely see a coach switch from one top 15 job to another without some other grounds for doing so, such as personal reasons, differences with AD, etc.
Posted on 11/22/15 at 11:38 pm to okietiger
I agree Texas is a top 5 job, but it is a complete myth that they have endless resources. Their AD hasn't turned a profit in several years, they can't fill their stadium, and their program is literally hemoraging money between misconduct lawsuits, coaching buyouts, and AD turnover.
I think they even paid Vince young six figure salary at some point to basically do nothing.
They make 160 million a year and spend 190, and that doesn't even count paying off their stadium renovations. Not to mention the Longhorn network is a money pit ESPN will dump the first chance it gets, and a big chunk of the payments for the LHN don't go to the AD, they go to the university per an agreement in helping to fund it.
They are so arse backward - it's a complete myth they have money.

And what do they do with those kids? Win a title every 40 years or so, when Oklahoma decides to take a year off from winning the conference?
Take away Vince Young's magic scramble play against USC, and the Longhorns are basically Ole Miss with money. A couple of titles in the 60's, and not much else.
The poster who said Texas is all hype was right on the money. If you want to smile for cameras every day of your life, then the Texas job is divine. If you want to win titles, you're better off elsewhere.

This is the type of post that makes most people think Aggies have such a little brother attitude. It's ok to admit that Texas is a very good program and one of the top jobs in the nation.
Vince Young's magic scramble play? That makes it seem like it was just luck that Texas won, and you're not really acknowledging that was one of the 5 best teams of the last 25 years.
Posted on 11/23/15 at 12:46 am to Dawgsontop34
If the Longhorns stopped playing football tomorrow, it would take the aggies almost 17 consecutive years of 10-win seasons to equal Texas in all-time victories.
Poooor aggiiieees.

Vince Young was an amazing player. He put that team on his back and carried them to the victory over USC. It was an great performance by a generational talent. I'm not trying to take anything away from him, I'm just saying that play is the only thing separating UT from a nearly 50 year title drought.
Lots of folks on this site watched Texas during the Mack Brown years, and are too young to remember the 30 years that preceded it where 6-8 win seasons in a small regional conference with Rice, SMU, and Houston were the norm in Austin.
From my perspective, if a school is going to be considered the top coaching job in the game, they should probably have a little more hardware in the trophy room.

Arkansas is a little too high
Mississippi State and Ole Miss a little too low
Nebraska a little too high
South Carolina too high
USC a little too high
Miami way too high
This is a nice try but lots of things need to be considered. No one at ESPN is smart enough to make an accurate job hierarchy list, so he gets a 5 out of 10.

As much as I hate Auburn, it's ridiculous to put them below A&M.
