Travis Haney with ESPN did a ton of research in order to compile these rankings. Probably the best I've seen, and also should bring just a smidge of reality to the current Bama "ain't dat good a job down der Paaawl" narrative:

1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. USC
4. Ohio State
5. Florida
6. LSU
7. FSU
8. Georgia
9. Oklahoma
10. Notre Dame
11. (tie) A&M
11. (tie) Oregon
13. Auburn
14. Michigan
15. Tennessee
16. Clemson
17. (tie) UCLA
17. (tie) Penn State
19. South Carolina
20. Michigan State
21. Nebraska
22. Arkansas
23. Miami
24. Wisconsin

Other SEC schools of note:

32. Ole Miss
34. (tie) Mississippi State
34. (tie) Missouri
45. Kentucky
59. Vanderbilt

Texas is not the best job... you have to compete with Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech for recruits. On top of that they play in a terrible conference

It's a pretty good list overall. I think OSU is tops in the country and Michigan should be a little higher but whatever

Texas is the best job and it's probably not close. They have basically endless resources there.

Michigan has really taken a step back. Now on their 3rd coach since Carr.

Harbaugh of course was a homerun of a hire.

Whenever Texas is winning they don't compete with those schools at all. Texas runs that state. Their funding is outrageous and they literally have an ESPN channel.

Yup.

It's amazing they haven't been more historically dominate.

Solid list. The only one I'm a little iffy on is Georgia, all the natural resources to be a top 5 job but the administration's approach to athletics leaves me a little uncertain on them. Great for them academically but we're specifically talking football here.

Texas may have the most money but there's a lot of baggage coming with that job. How many coaches turned them down before they settled for Strong?

Only one that we know of. And it's because he's getting up there in age and Bama paid him a big bump in salary to stay.

Let's not act like Charlie Strong is chopped liver. Dude was the leading candidate for almost every job prior to Texas getting him.

Yeah Georgia is a wildcard.

But they have a similarity to LSU in that GaTech is likely never going to pose a massive recruiting threat to them. Kids grow up in Georgia want to play for Georgia. Much like Louisiana kids and LSU.

If Texas was a better job than Alabama, Nick Saban would be wearing burnt orange.

there's little difference between any of the top 10 or so ... and the money thing is mostly irrelevant given how much money is already spent by big time programs ... texas has always had money, but they've failed to make a big hire on several occasions, so all that money didn't do much for them ...

I think we could make a case for being a better spot than FSU, but then they have an entire police force and DA in their pocket (the exact opposite for UGA) so maybe not.
