Thanks coach. You are gaining a lot of fans here in a Birmingham.

LSU's Les Miles took time out of preparing for this week's game against Western Kentucky to talk running backs and eternity with a Mountain Brook teen who is now home from the hospital and under hospice care.
quote:
As Miles lauded Western Kentucky's running back, Sid did what few probably have the nerve to do, and that is interrupt the coach mid-sentence. "We have a decent running back also,'' Sid told the coach, at which point Miles laughed and said, "We have a really good running back, not decent, we have a great one."
Miles, who previously told Sid ""Life is not how long you live, but how well you live it," told the teen today, "When you get to Heaven, save a spot for me." Sid told him he hoped to live long enough to watch the Alabama vs. LSU game in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 7. Miles said he would help Sid get to the game if possible, and Sid's parents, Scott and Lynn Ortis, are all for that. "If he's alive and up for it, we'll take him wherever,'' Lynn Ortis said. "Sid gets whatever he wants right now."
Thanks coach. You are gaining a lot of fans here in a Birmingham.

I love Les Miles. He is a class act and a great personality. Too bad he coaches the swamp kittens.

Les Miles is my favorite coach in the SEC/world right now. Everything he's done for this kid shows that he truly is a class act. I will forever respect him for this.

Les Miles is a great coach and a great man. LSU is super lucky to have him and it is embarrassing how many LSU fans trash him and constantly nitpick his coaching decision. No coach is perfect, but Les is a damn good one. And he is also just a great guy and ambassador for the University.

Praying that the kid makes it long enough for the game. Damn what a way for him to go if he sees his Tigers beat Alabama in Bryant Denny. Thoughts with his family. Props to Les, great coach even better man.

This, man. Can't say enough of this. The day Les Miles ends his career at LSU will be a sad one for me. Honestly can't think of another man that I would want at the helms. Class, integrity, and family are all the most important to him. God bless you sid and your family.

I've followed the story for awhile. He's too damn young to be dealing with this shite, his story has changed my 23 year old life. Miles is truly a great human being too.
God Bless you Sid. You're the man

62-23 sec record 2 sec titles 2 natty appearances 1 win. Number 1 recruiting class now and a lock to finish n top 3. Anyone who trashes that needs to start pulling for UT or USC.. Great coach.. Even better man.. Only 1 HC better in sec imo and that's performance only

Well said. It won't just be a sad day for LSU, but the whole SEC when he retires.
He truly believes there is more to life than football, wins, and losses.
As many times as he has turned down Michigan, he truly loves this state, which is a great thing.
I fear the day the Miles haters get their wish.

I will pray this young man gets to go to the LSU / Bama game and that he has a wonderful time. I hope Nick finds out about this - would love to see Nick and Les with him.
Nick is a good guy but so dam aggressive he comes off in a blunt way - Les is just Les - I have seen Les at his baby girls softball games and he and his wife come off just as mom and dad.
You can break down Nick and Les this way - Nick is mental with forced emotions - Les is spiritual with heart emotions
I live in Baton Rouge and I agree with anyone from out of town that says Les gets a ugly stick often from Lsu fans - he does and often. Not when we are undefeated - but when things are a little raw. Les is a great coach not on par of course with Nick and what he has done but a great coach.
Thinking of this family and this young man living day to day- if you are alive in 2 weeks - dam - as a father of six its hard to even care about the game if this guy can just make it - praying for this family
OK I had missed the link
Sid leading family in prayer - crying now
