I'll make an observation or two on Garrett and the A&M defense.
I made a point to replay and break down last year's LSU vs A&M game on DVR for my 14 yo son and teammates the other night. They were more interested in LF burying your secondary enforcer, but I wanted them to isolate on the LSU running game at the point of attack.
I would like to say that Garrett got winded to explain his performance, but truth is, he was beat from the get go. And that's alright, he was a freshman. But something that stood out to me was how often he was lined up on the opposite side of Collins. So, it really didn't matter much who drew that assignment, Garrett just wasn't a factor.
And that too is understandable. His forte' is edge rushing, right? But don't sit here and tell me he is a 4-3 contain guy. Just not true to this point in his career. At least not vs the teams that really matter.
Now, as far as A&M and their defense is concerned, they've got big problems. Sumlin can use Snyder as a scapegoat, and maybe he really sucked as a coordinator. But A&M's biggest problem on defense is that their offense can't control the ball. It's far too dependent on timing and the passing game.
QB can't have an off day, defense can't be good in press coverage, weather can't be cold, windy, or rainy. And even on days where the stars align, they blitzkrieg points, then can't control the ball and the clock when it matters. All of this leaves the defense on the field. And sure A&M has the same depth as everyone else, but not the same caliber on defense.
You have to be able to get short yardage first downs and stop them to win championships. Chavis had good success at LSU, but largely due to our offense controlling the ball and the defense being rested with quality depth as well. Chavis went into early retirement at A&M.
Good luck.

He had an arm and back injury during conference. Not to mention he wasn't exactly getting a lot of help. On top of what happened internally withthe whole team rift midseason.
Should had a minimum of 3 more vs auburn.

We've had a thread on this. Chavis Defense doesn't require Time Of Possession. Next.

Chavis has already shown me he is creative enough to dance circles around Sny_er.
Expect that when SEC play starts Chavis may be moving Garett around some to exploit mismatches and create mayhem in the backfield.
When you are that big and run a 4.46 on grass, you will be a force.

There is no way today Garrett is better than Bosa as an edge rusher. Bosa was a 1st team AA last year and a frosh AA the year before. He is already getting the Clowney type treatment to the point that Bama ran away from him almost all night
Garrett may have more raw ability and upside, but I don't even think Sumlin would take Garrett over Bosa in 2015 for this season

Do you think that you can find 5 Dudes after Obiaha, Garret & Mack
1. Obioha doesn't even start. He backs up Alonzo Williams at 3-tech.
2. Daeshon Hall (6'6 260) starts at SDE now. You're also leaving out Hardreck Walker (6'2 300 JR NT), Zaycovan Henderson (6'1 290 SO NT), Alonzo Williams (6'4 305 SR 2-year starter), Jarrett Johnson (6'3 255 SO END), Qualen Cunningham (6'3 240 SO END), Deshawn Washington (6'3 285 RS FR Tackle), Darrell Jackson (6'5 235 SO-RS END), James Lockhart (#1 DE in Texas 2015), and Kingsley KeKe (6'3 319 FR DT)

We've had this discussion?
OK, Sybil.
Like I said, Good Luck!

LMAO at this line of thinking, listning heights and weights as if that is the end all be all to how good your lineman are
Any school can do that
Those numbers dont show how good of a FOOTBALL PLAYER they are.
Reminds me of Tennessee fans who post about how their incoming 5* this or that is going to be so good just because they are 5*.

Bosa is a handful.

Except that only 2 of those players listed are incoming freshmen. The others are all returning lettermen and starters.

Miles Garrett is a stud and the real deal, but this thread is the ebodiment of my reason for coming to tRant for the sole purpose of posting "frickLSU®."
At this moment in time, Barnett > Garrett. If POTENTIAL is what we are looking at, I go with Garrett, but this is like walking up to Payton Manning and flashing the money sign while yelling "at least Johnny Football won the Heisman, bitch." Or some shite.
p. s. -- i don't really come to tRant for the sole purpose of posting frickLSU®. It's just that, frickLSU® is universal logic, like math. It trascends language, culture, etc. frickLSU® Is the answer to all questions. It is the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.
p. s. s. -- frickLSU®

Folks don't completely understand the coordination that keeps this place in line. Looking at things objectively, I wonder: Shall we expect things to be more civil around here? Unlikely.

This is the consensus for everyone who isn't trolling.

As a Duck fan, I am the resident expert on potential. Just because he gets mocks right doesn't mean he is a good evaluator but he knows that the NFL falls in love with upside. Case in point is Dion Jordan and Arik Armstead. They step off the bus and look like Tarzan. However, the reality is they have some Jane in them. Bosa and Barnett have proven that they have alpha in them. That is the quality I want. Garrett very well could have that in him but usually you see it right away.
