The Texas state system has no flagship. It's A&M, UT, UNT, UH.

Umm... No. You are mistaken. A&M and Texas are the flagships.

I don't even understand what the discussion is.
In Texas, flagship isn't a non-measurable, esoteric term.
It's a designation--based on multiple criteria--as spelled out by the state and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

I may not be an expert on the intricacies of various defensive shells in football.
But I know the ins and out of higher education.
It's what I do.

It has nothing to do with trophies.
It's simply the way the state of Texas chose to structure its institutions of higher education.

He was referring to public IHEs.
Privates don't enter into the discussion.
Their standards (or lack thereof) are their own.

If by two flagships institutions you mean a university and a cult, then yes, you do.

The Texas Constitution provided for the systems mentioned, with the U of Texas system getting 2/3 of the funding and the Agricultural and Mining school getting 1/3.

You won't get a formal state definition of a flagship school -- not ever now that A&M has increased its enrollment and diluted, slightly, its diploma value.

Other than Aggies, most everyone would say that the University of Texas is the state's defacto flagship.

But hey, you have to deal with these folks. You ultimately just have to let them be themselves.

And these people would be incorrect.

Some things are worth debating.
This one just isn't.
Not sure why you've chosen to die in a ditch over it, but by all means, do your thing.

May as well get us a link of the definition if there is one.
