Gay UFO life form, with HIV, found on the moon. Denied a pay raise is racist.

That should get the ball rolling.

Does this mean SDSU is a flagship, since it helms the Cal State system? I should tell UCLA to suck it, tell Cal we are equals, and will await for the SEC invite.

I'd pick Austin over College Station every time.

As would a number of people. Doesn't mean college station sucks. It is what it is. It's a college town

Ok then...if we have to go specifically college town.

San Marcos > College Station

It has nothing to do with trophies.
It's simply the way the state of Texas chose to structure its institutions of higher education.
All states are different, since education in the U.S. is decentralized, rather than centralized (each state makes its own calls).
quote:
Thirty-six (36) separate and distinct public universities exist in Texas, of which 32 belong to one of the six state university systems.[9][10] Discovery of minerals on Permanent University Fund land, particularly oil, has helped fund the rapid growth of the state's two largest university systems: The University of Texas System and the Texas A&M System. The four other university systems: the University of Houston System, the University of North Texas System, the Texas State System, and the Texas Tech System are not funded by the Permanent University Fund.

The Carnegie Foundation classifies three of Texas's universities as Tier One research institutions: The University of Texas at Austin, the Texas A&M University, and the University of Houston.[1][2][3] The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University are flagship universities of the state of Texas. Both were established by the Texas Constitution and hold stakes in the Permanent University Fund. The state has been putting effort to expand the number of flagship universities by elevating some of its seven institutions designated as "emerging research universities." The two that are expected to emerge first are the University of Houston and Texas Tech University, likely in that order according to discussions on the House floor of the 82nd Texas Legislature.[11]

I'm sure this has already been brought up, but are you seriously using an argument that puts you on the same level as fricking Houston to prove your point?

Flagship, in the sense that nearly everyone uses the word, is figurative and works almost exclusively off of perception. There isn't a single person on the planet that isn't an A&M fan that thinks of A&M when flagship university of Texas is brought up.

I'm not trying to put any institution on the same level.
You--and anyone else--can hold whatever perception you choose.
I was explaining that each state configures its education system differently.
Smaller states (e.g., New Hampshire) don't have the same framework as do larger states (e,g., California).

View Texas A&M University in the same regard as the lowliest of online degree mills--it's no skin off my nose.

Your state's customs have nothing to do with the premise of this thread, or nearly any other topic on the issue on this forum.

I disagree with you.
The 6th post in the thread indicated otherwise.
No clue why you're so bent about it, but hang in there.
Peace.

That's correct, Korin.
Rice University is occasionally included in the list as well--depending on the context of the discussion (obviously their private status comes into play).
The Texas legislation makes the flagship designation using such variables as: national Tier One academic research standing, AAU affiliation, and various metrics from the Center for Measuring University Performance and the Center for World Class Universities in Shanghai.
