Mccarron is vastly overrated by you gumps, he's a great game manager, but he doesn't have to be anything more with that defense and run game.

I cant agree with you here. You didnt see him in high school, kid can throw the ball as well as anyone I saw play when he was here, and I went to a lot of LSU and Saints games. Plus our receivers would drop 4 or 5 passes that hit them in the numbers per game. He is a game manager because that is what Saban wants, he shoy;d have gone to a school that throws the ball more. He doesnt like to be hit (What QB does) but if he has time he is deadly on flys and post.

Mobile QB's can negate great defemses at times. This is what Herbie meant. But Bama's Offense will shred A&M's defense, but they will be flat so maybe who knows.

I thought Herbie was better than this. A&M's problem is that beyond "Johnny Football" there is no credible threat. Once a team like Alabama (or LSU) adjusts to his option play, it is over for A&M. LSU demonstrated this fairly well. A&M's problem is that their team around Manziel is not high enough quality to swing in the top tier.

LSU definitely has a quarterback problem in its match-up with Alabama. But that can be overcome if they go to a reliable short passing game mixed with the run and then take some shots deep. LSU will have to execute on offense much more decisively than they have so far this year. LSU's defense matches up better with Alabama's offense. LSU presents Alabama's biggest threat this year.

So let me get this straight. A Bama team that has a better d then lsu will have problems with a&m?

Lsu shut a&m down at Kyle field so Bama won't be able to handle them at bds?

I want what Herbie is smoking.

Think he is just saying that LSU Plays right into Alabamas hands. A&M is at least a curveball that could create some matchup problems.

Sheesh. LSU is the only sec team capable of beating bama. I don't understand the memory loss of some people because LSU is the only sec team that has had success against Alabama since lord Saban took the throne.

I expect a similar score for our game with Bama as the games they played against ole miss and miss st.

Only thing we have going for us is Bama will be recuperating from the 15 round bout with LSU. Even if they do beat LSU handily, it will still be a knife fight.

If we hold true to form, and get a few scores early, and play a perfect game in terms of penalties and turnovers, we might have a shot to hold on. Defenses have adjusted to us, but this could be KK's third times a charm so to speak. Maybe he finally has figured out his adjustments to the adjustments.

Either way, we have to handle business this weekend to make this a relevant discussion.

Alabama may have a slight overall edge in defense but LSU's defense is leaner and a little quicker.. just like last season. It'll be interesting to see how Alabama's defense handles Texas A&M's offense.. especially the week after playing LSU. LSU and Alabama always both have hangovers the week after playing each other.

Que?
2008: 32-7 vs MSU
2009: 31-3 vs MSU
2010: 30-10 vs MSU
2011: 24-7 vs MSU

I wish my hangovers were that easy to handle...

30-10 at home and 24-7? Those aren't usual Alabama scores.

30-10 is pretty much the avg at home over the last few years against most of the SEC, +/- a few points. (I think our opponent's prob avg. somewhere closer to 7 pts if I had to guess). 24-7 is about the only one that an argument could be made for, as there were a lot of banged up players in that one (I think a few injuries on the OLine) but MSU only averaged 2.2 yards per play and didn't even get to 150 total yards (131 to be exact). Trent almost had more than them in rushing yards (127)....sad arse Bulldogs

Texas A&M is a step up from the usual Mississippi State after LSU. I'm not saying Alabama loses.. not even. But it'll be interesting to see how Alabama handles Manziel. He'll probably be successful for a quarter of two - just like he was against Florida and LSU.

Is it? Both have had near identical records since 2008 with the conferences being very different.

Agreed, which is why I've said A&M would be our toughest game of the year on Bama message boards when this question comes up. JFF is a freak, and I guarantee you he'll break one or two for long runs. But, he'll also have nightmares of CJ Mosley running through his head after the game. CJ is our most agile LB and will shadow JFF all day long.

Even though I enjoy watching both teams and hope they win every game, I gotta pull for the Tide in this one.

I'm not talking about as a program.. just this season's A&M team compared to those Mississippi State teams. A&M presents a much more dynamic offense that could catch a sleeping Alabama team off guard.
