It seems like Saban is talking in circles probably because I'm guessing he's tired of being asked about it and everyone already knows how epic his comparisons are so this BS is no different
This shite is not different than his 911 comparison a few years ago.

I just find it hilarious that people (not really you by the way) seem to get so worked up over him giving his opinion, which has been very consistent for at least a couple of years now.
quote:Sure, but he is attempting to influence the change through statements like comparing a football play with smoking a cigarette, so it is only natural for there to be a backlash.
He isn't voting on any rule change.

He has consistently made pretty outlandish hyperbolic analogies in his career, at least at Alabama (the cigarette analogy certainly qualifies). Pearl harbor, 9/11, etc. I think it is his egomania that causes it. It also causes him to be extremely successful in his career, so I'll allow it.

quote:I don't hate all things Bama or Saban. My point is he is being disingenuous and despite being a really good football coach, people are allowed to call him on it.
I am not sure what your point is other than your hatred of all things Bama and Saban. The guy has a philospohy about the game as a defensive minded coach.

The analogies actually make sense if he wouldn't use such grave subject matter to get everyone in a twist.

I think we can all agree that fatigue can cause injuries, can we not?
When addressing a problem, one must fully analyze and define the problem. I think this one is relatively simple, comprising of two likely problems with respective solutions:
1. Player conditioning.
What is the best, most effective, least intrusive means of dealing with player injury resulting from fatigue? CONDITIONING. Players can get fatigued on either side of the ball facing different speeds and styles of opponents.
2. Pussy
The best solution to this condition is for FBS players to quit and get a dog.

Oklahoma, Auburn, and A&M find a way to move the ball against the defensive style that not many other teams can conventionally; a defensive style that operates primarily based on defensive package strategy (which takes time when you're trying to sub in multiple players rather than subbing to give a player a break) and now the rules need to change.
All the offenses are doing is countering a strategy employed by Saban from his study of teams and what they like to do based on down and distance and formation percentages by taking away what he likes to do. This in-turn gives their team a better chance at success.
He simply needs to adapt which means lighter, more athletic linebackers which is what this argument is really all about. They would need to slim down to about C.J. Moseley's weight rather than play at 250-260. Consequently, it may also affect the run defense from being as stout.

" Little Brother" beat you because of your coach last year....I'd say that could well have been little brother's BEST football day.
The longer Saban stays, the more likely there may be more of them, unless he figures how to estimate trajectories on field goals.

You are missing the point, a step in the logic.
I said I believe his egomania causes him to say some outlandish thing, make over the top analogies. AND that I believe his egomania contribute to his success at his profession.
I said nothing about him saying ridiculous things playing a role in his success.

quote:Sure, but, of course, that is an incomplete analysis. We can also agree that a more rested player is more likely to make a harder hit than a fatigued defender. We can agree that being tackled by a bigger, stronger player is more likely to result in injury than being tackled by a smaller, weaker player. Running is more likely to lead to injury than walking.
I think we can all agree that fatigue can cause injuries, can we not?

This is all about Saban's defensive recruiting being completely nullified by an offense he doesn't like to face. He wants opposing teams to bring the pro-style offense so he can line up his 300 pound linebackers and shut it all down. Those some behemoths are slow as frick after 3 plays in a row.
Les Miles seems to know what the frick he is doing on the D side of the ball. He has players that can do both pro-style and HUNH.

He does, and it looks like recruiting the last couple of years has reflected that he is.
