Carlton Davis is going to play on Sunday's. I'm not really worried about the pass rush either. Jeff Holland was good last year..the only thing he needs to do is work on finishing the play. Paul James and Nick Coe will be good options as well.

It takes considerable might to fail that hard at LSU defensively with all the talent we have there too. Very hard to explain how Steele's D was bad at LSU in 2015. Aranda improved it a TON this past year, despite a total philosophy change to a 3-4.
You're not kidding:
LSU defense stats:
opponent ppg:
all
2014 - 17.5
2015 - 24.3
2016 - 15.8
vs power 5
2014 - 21.1
2015 - 24.9
2016 - 16.6
opponent passing yards per game:
2014 - 164.2
2015 - 224.3 (same DBs as 2014)
2016 - 197.2
opponent rushing yards per game vs power 5:
2014 - 164.89 (starting 3 new DL)
2015 - 127.80
2016 - 120.60

Biggest imprvement wasn't in yards allowed, it was i nthe redzone.
33 trips to our redzone in 2016, with 8 being converted into touchdowns
36 trips to our redzone in 2015, with 25 being converted into touchdowns
Steele's defense couldnt stop anyone once they got within striking distance, Aranda turned that completely around. By far the biggest impactful change.
We allowed 16 total touchdowns in 2016, we allowed 38 in 2015. Aranda's scoring defense would have even better if teams didn't hit a ridiculously high rate of FGs on us (25 of 26 last year)...they couldn't freaking miss.

Good point. It was dreadful when opponents got into the redzone that year.
Aranda is a wizard in the red zone. Auburn fans should know that.

Correct. He's lived in Alabama the past 5-10 years and he has no intentions to move.

How many Freshman and Sophomores did he play at lsu? Anyway I'm glad he's at Auburn, and won't be gone in a year or two.

I believe we are as deep as we have been since Tub. Safety depth is the only thing that concerns me.

I am not certain why you are so certain about Holland. He had 13 tackles and 2 sacks last year. The sacks came against arkie and ole miss. Ole miss couldn't run and arkie's OL was trash. That being said I completely understand why anyone would think he has potential. The tools are all there, but he hasn't really shown anything to make me certain he's a lock to be a great SEC DE.
Davis has all the tools to play on Sunday, but he isn't an NFL lock. His play dropped off last year as compared to his freshman season under T-rob. He did have 10 pass deflections last year, but also gave up several first down routes. He has it, just needs to show it week after week. Perhaps the most obvious thing to me showing he isn't where he needs to be is no team we played last season avoided throwing in his direction. Of course, that is the mark of a NFL talent at corner.
Agree with you about Coe and James, but we have never seen either play against SEC competition.

We'll trade you one for an offensive lineman

Not a young defense if you think he just played a ton of young guys. We had 7 guys drafted that played on that 2015 defense (so far).
The starting defense that year consisted of guys including but not limited to Jamal Adams, Tre'Davious White, Jalen Mills, Kendell Beckwith, Davon Godchaux, Christian LaCouture, Lewis Neal and Debo Jones. All of those guys are in the NFL right now except LaCouture who is a 5th year senior starting this year.

Not only is that timeline not accurate, but that still doesn't make it his "home state".

There is zero reasons, baring major injuries, for the defense to fall off. We did not lose a lot of guys and we added some talent. They should know how to play defense by now
He somehow managed to make LSU suck on defense

2015 was lackluster, but Muschamp started the improvements. The numbers didn't show the changes that were happening in terms of fundamentals and discipline to role. With that said, AU has actual developed talent and depth at LB now, a deep DL, and some talent in the secondary.
I expect AU to be top 30 in total D.

I think he's on the way to redeeming himself as a DC
he's a solid DC and as an added bonus to Kevin, if he can hang on at AU for 4 more seasons he'll be vested in the state retirement system, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

He's been in Alabama since like 2013 and maybe even longer. That makes it his home state.
