If CBS spent roughly 11 Billion (yes BILLION) for the March Madness TV rights it must be relevant to somebody. That was almost double the previous deal of 6 Billion so demand is moving up not down.

More people watched nerds play League of Legends than the NBA Finals last year. Let that sink in.

The fact that people cite professional sports as being more popular than an amateur sport as a reason that that sport is irrelevant has never made sense to me.

College football isn't nearly as big of a deal in the rest of the country as it is in the South, either. Professional sports on average are just more popular than college sports. But in terms of college sports, basketball is a clear #2 and the fact that much of this board dismisses it as a joke is a defense mechanism for its shitty basketball programs.

This entire argument was about the relevancy of "roundball". That includes the pros. Considering the NBA is more popular than college 11 months out of the year, it's relevant.

And I promise you the League of Legends demographic isn't as young as you think it is.

Why are you comparing YouTube videos that you can watch on demand to a live sporting event? That seems silly

You should probably find out what the rest of us are talking about before coming in. We aren't talking about on demand videos. We're talking about live streams. There were more concurrent viewers for the League of Legends finals than the entire NBA Finals. Regardless of demographic, that's fricking sad that the FINALS of a "real" professional sport has that problem. Then again that's probably why the tournament this year is available on ESPN3.

You didn't exactly specify. I thought you were talking about let's plays. My bad.

Still not getting the comparison.

No, it's a shitty product. All of the good players play one year and then disappear. So you either get a team full of gifted players who don't know what the frick they're doing (Kentucky) but can out-athlete everyone, or you get a team full of seniors that will never play in the NBA. I used to watch college basketball despite Alabama not giving a frick, but I haven't in at least a decade or more. The only one getting defensive is you. I'm just pointing out the obvious.

Which amounted to 3 of 14 SEC teams last year. There are over 325 eligible Division 1 teams but only 68 make it. A college football team has a much better chance at making a bowl game than the basketball team making the tournament

How is this helping your argument? The fact that 3 SEC teams made it last year is a joke. Bowl games are exhibitions. We're talking about the tournament that decides the eventual winner. And that tournament accepts basically any team that isn't completely terrible. Thus, the regular season is pointless. Any team that can't make the tournament had no shot at winning anyway. Hell, 3/4 of the teams that make the tournament have no shot at winning.

I really don't see the issue with this. A bunch of the best college football players don't make it in the NFL; no one complains.

And I agree that the one-and-done rule hurts the product, but only a few programs actually land one-and-dones, and only one title has been won by a team comprised of mostly one-and-dones (and I might add that was a really good TEAM).

Pussies have started voting for bball rankings. Most of the AP voters for football reside from the south. All the voters for bball are yankees who just want to blow prominent bball schools only
