I hope he forms a committee with some football people on it, like Dermonte Dawson and Jeff Van Note. Barnhart is not a football guy.

His revenue sports hires have been awful (Gillispie), and seemed awful at the time (Brooks).
I don't give him credit for Calipari, cause Calipari hired himself.

Forde says no Petrino for UK but maybe Pease?:

quote:

Sources tell Yahoo! Sports that the candidate list includes Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, plus several college offensive coordinators. Among those believed to be interested in the job are Florida's Brent Pease and Texas Tech's Neal Brown, both of whom have ties to UK – Pease as a former assistant and Brown as a player.

Yeah someone like Brooks being involved would be great, UK really needs to connect on this hire.

It was nice hearing that last paragraph about expectations, goals, direction of the program from Mitch. If he means it, he will have no more problems out of BBN.

I think your post is spot on overall. Get a game against IU/Purdue, NC or Duke, and Southern Miss. Then recruit those areas for talent. You should win those games most of the time.

Playing WKU or UL doesn't accomplish anything for UK, you are already recruiting those players.

As I said earlier, I don't want Mumme 2.0, while it's fun, you still lose just as much. Defense is the starting point to any kind of recovery. And with Smith and Towles, Robinson and Sweat already here, the offense is already off to a good start for next year.
I think the right hire can be mildly successful next year.

I saw Neal Brown mentioned on twitter. Time to start tracking planes.

Petrino to UK.

it will be interesting to see if Petrino takes a position before the season is done or if he waits until the start of the year to see who his suitors are.

Forde hates UK, so I don't care what he thinks, although I don't think Petrino would be interested anyway. He will have higher profile offers.

Pease doesn't excite me, nor does Koetter or Dykes.

Hire a defensive coach!

And coming back to this, there's long been the hub bub that UK would go after Dykes with Brown as his OC since they won't let him bring Franklin.

If Tubbs leaves for one of the SEC spots it could happen IMO.

UK doesn't have, and will never have, the talent to complete in the SEC with the strong D + pro style O combination.

They need an offensive coach with some quirks/gimmicks.

What is the point of using a search firm for anyway? Is it just a way for a 3rd party to check into the background and credentials of a possible coach?

I have never understood it, or why they would decide to do it internally this time.

If you need a search firm then you aren't qualified to be a big time athletic director.

And it would have to be as good or better then anyone else in the SEC in order to bring in recruits. Not happening.

Incorrect dear.. here are the NCAA numbers for scoring defense after this weekends games :

Top 10 schools
1 Alabama - SEC powerhouse
2 Notre Dame
3 Florida State
4 Florida - SEC powerhouse
5 Utah State
6 Rutgers
7 BYU
8 Boise State
9 Bowling Green
10 LSU - SEC powerhouse

Now look at the rest of the SEC
14 Vanderbilt - NOT a SEC powerhouse
20 South Carolina - NOT a historic SEC powerhouse
23 Mississippi State - NOT a SEC powerhouse
25 Georgia - SEC powerhouse

Yeah, read that again! 2 of the historic SEC cellar dwellers are winning with defense first strategies!

27 Texas A&M - currently ranked in the Top 25
38 Missouri

Now look at the schools in the SEC with bad defense
62 Auburn
65 Ole Miss
78 Arkansas
96 Kentucky
107 Tennessee

Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Tennessee all have better football history than UK and all of them are not winning with piss poor defense. So Vandy can win with defense and Tennessee can not win without it. Nobody is going to say Vandy has the better history than Tennessee!

I know you believe offense will save the day but facts show that it is the teams with defense that are winning in the SEC. If Vandy and State can do it then so can UK.

UK will fly private so tracking planes will be difficult. For real coach stalking you need folks on the ground with cameras to see who gets off certain planes.

Mississippi State has the luxury of recruiting the state of Mississippi. It was only a matter of time before they were able to get someone who could capitalize on that. We certainly don't have that luxury.

Vandy is us in 2006-2007 right now. And they're not even bowl eligible yet. I know you're a fan of them but I wouldn't exactly call that "winning" at this point.

You keep saying piss poor defense. Hiring a serviceable defensive coordinator (for the millonth time) =/= piss poor defense.

And frankly, Mumme and Leach got us to an Outback Bowl with the Air Raid. That's better then anything we've produced as of late. That 2-9 season was in the middle of a NCAA investigation so I don't know how that really figures in.

It's pretty clear where I stand on the subject (I don't feel like arguing it ad nauseum at this point either).

So for those who aren't in it for Leach or Dykes who is your answer?

Belle, be fair on this one. Chris T Sullivan (UK 72') as president of Outback Steakhouse at the time got UK in that Bowl. How old are you not to know about HH and the Two Keys years?

I am more of a fan of UK than Vandy but I have respect for Vandy and its history. You can not seem to get this though your head. If I have a kid that can get to Vandy on an athletic scholly then it means I respect the value of the Vandy degree in life. John R Hall has served both Kentucky AND Vanderbilt and neither was harmed by his association.

And here comes the condescending comments again when I don't agree.

And we still got into the Outback Bowl because we were eligible to do so. At the very least you have to agree that is comparable to what we've done. It brought in the fans and brought in the money (unfortunately that money got turned into buying recruits). Isn't that what we need?

Thank you for the history lesson but that doesn't really address my point.
