31,890,572 + 18,557,243. 50,447,518. That is a whole lot of money minus Cal's salary. I think UK can pony up some cash for a good HC.

BluegrassBelle,

I know you want an offensive guy but the smart move for UK with limited resources would be to build a defensive team and at least attempt to dominate one side of the ball. Part of UK's problem is they have one of the worst defenses in all of FBS football. The problem with Leach type hires is those folks let the defense fall to rack and ruin. It may work in other conferences but it will be disaster for UK in the SEC.

Sorry, but I don't know what that means.

Remaining Schedule:

Missouri
@Vandy
Kentucky

4-0 record in last 4, 7-5 and bowl game.

It looks like a lot of money until you look at the numbers for Bama, LSU, and Gators. Then UK looks like tip money vs real dollars.

I want a defensive head coach. It's the only way to win in the SEC.

The Athletics Department really only pays like $400,000 or so of Cals salary. The rest comes from endorsements and shite like that.

I have to respectfully disagree. You can hire an offensive guy and bring in a serviceable defensive hire.

The problem you're going to have with a defensive coach at UK is that it doesn't set you apart from anyone else in the SEC. People might not like the "gimmick" but the reality is we don't have the facilities or the tradition to go the typical route in the SEC. Spurrier was hired in at USCe as an offensive coach but he adapted with some good defensive hires. I think that's possible at UK with the right guy. The foundation we built under Brooks was done on offense, not defense.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. And that's fine.

Bill Curry has already been here. Losing 6-0 and 9-3 isn't going to please UK fans.

And some more info:

Jen Smith ?@jenheraldleader Apparently, Joker Phillips told Kentucky's players the news himself early today.

quote:

Bleed Blue Kentucky ?@BBK_Aaron My source has told me all assistant coaches will be let go as well. It will be up to the new coach if anyone is retained.

You are right about that. Still a lot of money in the coffers to pay up for a good HC. Go big or stay where they are at IMO. UK NEEDS a big time coach. Bring in the right staff and turn it around.

I don't completely disagree with you, but if you play Mumme ball and lose to Florida 50-35, it's still a loss.

I think it's possible to do both. Look at Bama. They average scoring in the 20's, but win their games.

This was "kinda true" in the past when UKAA (the K Fund) was a separate entity so the cash was paid out of a separate source. Between BCG suing the UKAA and the new UK president they have folded the UKAA into UK in general. In the next year or so when this hits the new fiscal year (2012 - 2013 or 2013-2014) you will see that 400K number reflect a number much closer to his actual salary.

M. Leach or Shannon Dawson. Leach with SEC talent could be very fricking scary.

I'm all in for the Pirate.

My fellow UK fans might disagree. But I'd love to see his quirky arse on the sideline.

What is the term for a mountain Pirate, or is there one? This is the the best option IMO. Now if they are looking for a Def. style HC then M. Stoops is the only way to go. Those 2 should be at the top of the "hire" board.

I'm not opposed to it, but it's going to be hard considering he was part of the staff that put us on probation. I just don't see it happening.

I think getting Fulmer or Cutcliff would be a bad move, Fulmer will always be "UT's coach" no matter where he ends up and Cutcliff is older, even if he had some moderate success it would probably end like Brooks' run did. We need an identity not more of the same, I'm not knocking those two coaches but I think it would be a bad fit at UK.

We need a younger coach who is going to stay at UK, who can sell this program to recruits over the traditional SEC powers and use one of the few advantages UK has and start recruiting the north(like Ohio).

I don't think Mitch will hire Petrino for character reasons, but I like Dykes and hope he is being considered.

You're not going to find a younger coach who is going to stay at UK is someone bigger comes calling.

That said, if someone bigger comes calling that means he's doing his job. I'd gladly take an up and comer.

I would think this is normal. A new coach can decide to retain assistants. When assistants are forced on someone, they don't take the job.
