LSU fans still searching for that validation? It's been like 6 pages now...

It's surprising that after 6 pages of comments from all the football gurus here that no one mentioned that LSU mixed in zone coverages to counter a mobile QB.
Particularly in 2012, JFF was at his worst when his scrambling didn't result in positive yardage because of containment from the DEs and fast LBs. He tried waiting for DLs to come up the field in the first half so he could scramble, and when that didn't work he started running in circles and chunking balls in the general vicinity of a maroon jersey. The zone allowed LSU DBs to simply wait for JFF to throw it to them.
Chavis adjusted for Manziel, whereas Saban/Smart played the same defense that they play against anyone else (press-man) and got burned 2 years in a row.

not sure you know what validation means

The personal packages that lsu has recruited that are long and heavy on speed are the same reason that Bama has shoved the ball down the defense's throat two years in a row.
You can't have it all on defense. Alabama can plug the lsu running game, but struggles more with spread schemes because of the limitations created by that size and strength.
Based on what each defense emphasizes in recruiting, the results don't seem too surprising.

everyone played mixed zones against TAMU. We didn't go into man as much as some, but to say Bama played man the entire game, is wrong.

LSU has faster linemen than Bama. And have for a while. I knew it was going to be an issue.

not all of us hang out on 1 board exclusively

Our 2012 game with LSU was competitive, too, in spite of Manziel's pedestrian outing.
The game was never in doubt.... for 45 minutes you guys didn't cross the 35 and for the vast majority of the back half of the game it was a multi-score lead. Wasn't an embarrassment like 2013, but sure wasn't highly competitive.

no it's not

Agree. There wasn't really a time in that game that I felt worried, except for the beginning due to JFF.

I would have never guessed before the SEC move, but this captures LSU fans so well.

Honestly, its the same problem he had against Florida-- JFF struggles against fast, elite defenses built around sideline to sideline speed at LB.
The reason he tore up Bama is that the Tide have the best defense in America against power football but in order to do so they have to sacrifice some speed and quickness-- just like for example LSU had to sacrifice some size and brute strength-- both have elite athletes but with slightly different approaches.
Ideally you'd have a mix of the two (its why in my opinion the Florida 2012 defense was so good it was a mix of the Saban/Muschamp appproach with a Buck and some size but still had the elite speed defenders from the Charlie Strong days_.

Credit where credit is due, but there are other reasons his performance was so far off from every other game he played in. Doesn't take away from LSU's performance, there were just other factors that amplified the negatives.
Of course of course. We all heard the whimpering after 2012 with the bad calls and gosh if the receivers just held onto the ball and the wind oh the wind... next time it will be different.
Next time - arse kicking. But the rain and um er injury yes injury.
You guys are like the Ohio State fans after championship games against the SEC - whatever makes you feel better.

I made this thread before last season that said LSU would be fine against aTm in '13 and Bama would struggle against A&M b/c Bama wouldn't give up the man-to-man.
Some choice responses include
quote:
Alabama will beat the shite out of A&M this year
quote:
Our biggest problem against a/m last year was Vinnie S playing in the slot
quote:
It was just one of those games where the ball kept bouncing A&M's way,
quote:
I think the more we see zone, the more we'll run the ball.
and my synopsis:
quote:
if y'all run Man and don't get pressure on him every down this year, JFF's gonna take you to the wire again. It's not a lay-up for Bama just because Saban does well in re-matches.
