1930s, 40s, and 50s? The white bread years.

Since 1970, around the time of integration in the SEC, LSU is 6th in winning pct behind...

Alabama
Georgia
Florida
Auburn
Tennessee

Thems the facts.

I never get the contention that LSU is at all "elite". A good program, but not one of the blue bloods like Texas and USC. Orgeron will win you some games.

If Saban doesn't arrive, LSU is essentially a slightly more successful version of Ole Miss.

And the talent in the NFL from Louisiana says otherwise.

What is talent in the state worth if you can't hold onto it? Obviously this was an issue before NS got there and continues to be a problem since he left. That's a fact! How many guys from the state go elsewhere every year?! If you can't hold onto them , then that argument holds no water.

Go check the number of players in the NFL from each team

Talent has not been LSUs issue.

Joel Klatt is a freaking idiot!

#9 All-Time

Funny only one other SEC school is higher.

Sucks when facts gets in the way of an agenda doesn't it!

On radio interviews Joel klatt said LSU finished in the ap top 10 just once in the 70s 80s and 90s decades. I didn't feel like gargoyling it, but this seems surprising. He claimed this stat to make the point that LSU is just an ok job, not a top tier job.

Look, I was born in 1986, and the first time that truly remember LSU being good was during the Kevin Faulk era...when #1 Florida came to Tiger Stadium and lost to #10 LSU. I think that was the game that got the ball rolling again for LSU. Then, of course, Saban came along and doubled down.

No it doesn't but Forbes noting that LSU is the 5th most valuable program in college fb does.

Look, prior to Nick, LSU had no more national relevancy than a Colorado or Clemson. Occasionally win a conference title; occasionally go to a major bowl game. But in those days, only a couple games a week were televised nationally. So unless you were consistently vying for NCs or appeared in NY Day bowls you just weren't real well known. Plus, the national media back then (the networks) were centered in the northeast. A southern school that wasn't particularly accomplished simply wasn't nationally relevant

So what about 60-70 when we finished top 10 6x, playing in major bowl games. Not a blip? The NC in 58?

Yup. And there's a reason Saban came to LSU. Saban did a lot of homework on LSU before accepting the job. He was surprised LSU had not been more successful than it had been the past 20 years. He considered LSU to be a sleeping giant.

The other thing about Saban is that he came to LSU because LSU stepped up and spent money. Not just on Saban's salary but on facilities and assistant coaches. Combined with the talent in Louisiana, that is why LSU is one of the top jobs in college football now. Big difference between now and 30 years ago.

Maybe because we won 2 Nattys in a 4 year span and went to 3 in an eight year span in the last 15 years. Nobody outside of bama has done as much.

Joel Klatt is Big 12 booster. Perhaps he is paving the way for the rumored LSU to the Big 12 movement?

I would think that would be a good move. They would finish in the upper level of the Big 12 in most years.

Are you serious about us not holding onto to instate talent since the midget whored himself to Miami?

The man who really got things going was Mark Emmert. He envisioned and laid out Master Plan to revitalize LSU through athletics and academics. Without him, Saban would have never come south from Mich St.
