Exactly! Thanks I thought I was the only one who noticed the theft of that game!

Weird statement. Well he's probably right but I still can't believe he said it. He just cheapened his own championship.

When Saban perfects that play and has Jalen Hurt cross the line of scrimmage and lineman 3-5 yards down field and your DBs are caught in no man's land don't come bitchin'!
You know Saban knows this play is indefensible so it a tremendous advantage? He is waiting for his players to perfect it then boom!

He isn't right. Penalties get missed all the time. Holding, PI, facemasks, you name it.

Why isn't he bitching about the epidemic of missed holding calls?
well, 99% of what people claim are holding fouls are not actually holding, ol can grab jersey inside the shoulder pad width, just because you see a milisecond of jersey stretch doesnt mean a player was held, like just because a db didnt turn his head and the wr didnt catch doesnt automatically make it pass interferrence. The point that is being made is its particularly difficult or nearly impossible to call this properly on a consistent basis because one official has to be able to simultaneously see 2 things at once on different parts of the field, see the release of the ball and know where 5 linemen are at that exact moment When its 3 yards its hard to judge, lots more space to lose track of them in. When its 1 yard like the pros its easier to spot and call. Seems the only reasonable thing to do is make it 1 yard cushion, unless you bring in yet another official or 2 to watch for this specifically, which is not practical to do when they have such trouble finding enough qualified refs to cover all the games as it is. Other option is to have this be able to be called from the booth by the replay official, who can see the whole field and is not really doing anything else most of the time

Fixed for improved accuracy.

***Auburn had linemen as far as 7 yards down the field during pass plays that game*** (actually, upon further review, this is incorrect, apologies auburn fans.)

I do think it's funny that someone other than Saban is pointing this out, finally. It's about time that someone publicly state these facts.

quote:

"It gives false key reads, and guys are running the ball."

I've posted this numerous times. I don't care which teams are involved, Linemen downfield during pass plays is almost never called. As a coverage player, when you see this, it means commit to the run immediately. The pass option should be eliminated. When that rule is selectively enforced then you can't be very good at stopping either the run or the pass. You're stuck between two reads. It's an advantage that is impossible to overcome if the qb can hit his targets.

Does anyone really ever wonder why these plays are wide open on the RPOs on a good percentage of attempts? This issue is responsible for a lot of those busted coverages.

This isn't jimbo being inflexible. This is Jimbo calling out poor enforcement of rules that defensive players rely on to make plays.

Funny because there are no rules against what they are doing, therefor they aren't illegal.

Linemen over 3 yards past the line of scrimmage, on a pass play, certainly is illegal.

I couldn't find a picture of the play vs Auburn that Fisher is talking about, but there are youtube videos out there that clearly show it. I don't have the time to look for it, but here's an example of the same thing.........

There are rules against linemen being downfield on pass plays. He's saying linemen are going downfield, but officials aren't calling it, which gives the offense an advantage.

LOL....Jimbo is just complaining that the rules aren't being enforced. Saban lobbied to have rules changed so that he didn't get raped by the HUNH offense.

I don't have time to screen shot...put posting the video is no problem. See the 0:18 for context of the LOS and location of the O-Lineman furthest downfield. #63 is exactly 3 yards downfield. His front foot might be 3 yards and a foot downfield but not sure how that works. See also the 1:22. Again, 3 yards downfield, not blocking. The only argument here is that Prosch, the FB was 4 yards downfield and appeared to be engaging a block at the time of the pass. But 7 yards only in Jimbo Fisher's very peculiar wet dream. MAYBE a missed call on Prosch? I don't know the rules...he was allowed to be downfield but is he allowed to block 4 yards downfield? Isn't there a 5 yard contact window or something? I dunno...but he sure as heck is allowed to block within 3 yards...so let's not act like that 1 yard is the missed call of the century or some shite...and let's not act like Jimbo Fisher has any idea wtf he is talking about with that 7 yards bull$hit. Besides...prior to Prosche being beyond 3 yards downfield, the corner and safety HAD ALREADY LEFT COATES. Meaning it had no affect on the play whatsoever...it's the equivalent of people whining about Terrance Cody taking off his helmet after blocking the Tennessee FG while the play was still live. So what?!! It had zero affect on the play. If you don't like the rule, fine. Fisher and others can lobby to change it...but don't bitch about the fact that Auburn used the rule to their advantage and stretched it all the way to the limits of that rule...Saban is a master of that. and don't bitch about a call/non-call that in no way affected the play
