It's not illegal, but I do think the rule should be changed to 1 yard. I think that's what the NFL does. I'm a defense fan though.

FSU defense got owned by QB Mitch Trubisky from Carolina. The guy is putting up huge numbers in the ACC. He was one from Ohio that Urban was after but went to Carolina. Looks like a good move for him and the Tar Heels. Although their defense (like a lot of other teams not named Bama and Ohio State and maybe Washington this year) may come back to haunt them as the season goes on. Heck you could even put Clemson in that list.

Later in that same press conference, he says it's impossible for a ref to call because they have to realize that a linemen is more than 3 yards down the field when the ball is thrown. You basically have to be looking at 2 places at the same time, and be aware of how far down the field all the linemen are.

He is worried alright. He knows his D is shite and that it can't defend anything more modern than the I-formation.
That's exactly what he is doing. He needs an excuse for why his D sucks and he's going to blame the boogeyman of run pass option b/c it's new enough that the average shmoe football fan has a good chance of falling for his BS. It's pretty much like how Bert tried to say that HUNH offense was going to put kids in the morgue.
