Gotta remember that not too long ago ESPN spent a ton of $$ (foolishly I might add)on contracts with Big Ten and ACC programing...banking on the girls school and the Univ of New Jersey @ Coral Gables to be top ten material...well...we know how that turned out!)so there wasn't a 3:30 ESPN slot available and only 1 night game that may or may not have been SEC. The JP network served a purpose...the real problem was they had to sign up crappy broadcast stations around the southeast to carry the games and their equipment sucked as well as the camera feeds.

But without the early games back then we would have been radio or PPV restricted a lot. Vandy, Ole Miss & Moo State benefitted a lot. Dave was not exactly a fountain of information...Chris was bearable at times.

You mean "The Daves?"

Yeah, they were terrible. I still have nightmares about Rowe's Rewind.

So did JP make the PPV games free?

Pay per view games on JP were atrocious. Grainy picture, would cut in and out on the regular, and etc.

I'll gladly deal with ESPN3/Streaming over that awful shite.

I love Dave Neal. One of my all time favorites. I always think of how much better he would be than Verne. Too bad, huh.

The Dave Network was greatness. Now we get Andre Ware.

I feel sorry for those who never got to hear Joe Dean holler out "Stufferino" and "String Music in Lexington K-Y".

Of course, my favorite was watching Vanderbilt play Kentucky. The Wildcat mascot was dressed up in some sort of outfit and Joe said, "that must be their pet commodore"

Yeah, everyone is shitting on the Daves, but Dave Baker did SEC tourney games this weekend with Kyle Peterson and was fine.

Obviously it's been quite a while since his JP days, and baseball is different than football, but he's a competent broadcaster. Now at least.

Worst LSU AD ever.

And now we get Joe Dean Jr doing SEC basketball, being terrible, and taking subtle jabs at LSU throughout the broadcast because he's still bitter that his dad sucked.

And he uses the 'string music' phrase.

Think of it as a slightly better Raycom. And by slightly I mean miniscule.

Yeah, even after JP turned into Raycom and LF, I just referred to it as the JP Game.

Mike Hamilton was cast in his mold...that being said, Joe was also a terrible commentator...he was so bad that you couldn't help but watch. JP was the train wreck of sports that you couldn't turn away from.
