Can't blame the wide receivers. They were open a lot of the times that Hurts rolled right, out of the pocket, and threw the ball away. We wasted this season what would have been, should have been, an elite receiving corps

Not only is he not a consistent passing qb, but right now he isn't even a good game manager, he can't read defenses, can't check down to other receivers, and he fumbles too often. I think he's scared, too.

edit: He may improve a lot by next season. I do hope so.

Oh yeah, and I've been saying this half the season, so it's not just now that I decided this. I've pissed off a lot of fellow bammers saying this, but it's so. I wish it were not, but it is.

Your non offensive touchdowns and defense had more to do with going 14-1 than Jalen Hurts offensive play.

But the failure of the offense to sustain drives left the defense on the field way too long, which obviously results in a worn and weary defense, and also gave the CLemson offense way too many opportunities.

This has been LSU's problem for years now (With the exception of 2013). We feel yuh.

Alabama went to the NC with a QB that has been 18 years old for 4 months. Also, we are pre season number 1. Alabama will be fine and will be in the playoffs again next year.

You'll probably go to Hell for making me agree with a LSU fan.

QB isn't supposed to be the main factor, not at Alabama and especially not as a Freshman. Hurts will hopefully improve in the off-season, interior o-line needs to improve more importantly.

What I saw from Hurts on the season certainly doesn't make me think he can't be the guy at Alabama is all I'm seeing.

Were we watching the same game? When Hurts (miraculously) made a decent throw, it was dropped.

Stewart dropped one. I think Deiter may have missed one he should have had. No receiver is going to catch every ball, but way the hell more than two or three times, receivers were open and Hurts couldn't get the ball to them. His favorite play is roll right, out of the pocket, and throw to the sidelines.

Of course Bama is going to be great next year. Certainly not implying they won't be. Comment was more about Hurts and his inability to consistently pass the ball which ultimately caused the defense to be on the field too much in the second half.

If you think Hurts will be fine and get more accurate there is nothing wrong with that. Your opinion is certainly as valid as mine.

I wouldn't blame them but the difference in the game were clutch catches from Clemson WR that Bama WR didn't make.

This is the same wide receiving corps that have been so productive the last 2 years.

A look at Jalen Hurts’ passing chart

Yep, all of that is true, but normally he would get a couple years of riding the bench to figure it out, which, when combined with his scrambling ability, will be a pretty great combination. Get the offensive line to not get penalties and perform as well as back in the first half of Saban's run and look out.

Yep he really sucked it up this year, only went 14-1 as a true freshman.

It would be overstatement to say he wasn't good for a freshman however he is not the 'Heisman" level player he was hyped to be during the year. He is surrounded by an incredible amount of talent and has major athletic skills so he was extremely successful. Nevertheless, he has deficits in his passing skills so he doesn't have the complete package....yet. (maybe never)
I am not sure Sark is the qB whisperer that Lane is so we'll see how he does moving forward.

I am sure he will improve. As you have said, he's still a kid. He'll get better.

Actually, Sarkisian, not Kiffin, was the QB coach for those awesome USC teams.

The passing game is probably the most underdeveloped trait for any True Freshman DT QB. Throw in playing championship defense for the last 3 games of the season, not even counting LSU and Auburn near the tail end, and it's going to magnify that. He's young and has time.

When I tried to tell some Bama fans on here last week that the problems with the offense were centered around the freshman QB hitting the wall, and not Kiffin, they got pretty upset.

Same thing with their secondary, mostly because they ran their mouths all season about how Bama's was so much better than LSU's.

Isn't the new trend for your QBs to leave after 1 or 2 years? When they are juniors or seniors? Yes. When they are true freshman starters? Generally not.

So what is the trend for true freshman starting QBs at Alabama?

Wasn't there that other dude that one time?
