Interesting topic on Rafter's this morning. Could Bill Self even last at Kentucky? He's made two final Fours in 14 years and many of y'all as well as the media revere him in the same breath as Coach K. Meanwhile Cal has made 4 Final Fours in 7 years at Kentucky alone. Self is 1-1 in the title game...both matchups coming against Cal. We demolished them in 2012 and Memphis lost on free throws in 2008, so Self is dangerously close to not even having a title to his name.

Self is the better coach in my opinion. Also like the way he approaches the game and doesn't only rely on the one and done. And he has won the Big 12 what 13 times in a row now, Cal wouldn't have came close to doing that there.

Kansas won that title easily. Memphis had to vacate their season

Of course cal knew nothing about it

Elite 8's

K has 14
Roy has 12
Cal has 10

Self is 2-6 in Elite 8s

Your response is idiotic to think Self is a better coach.

Whether UK fans want to admit it or not...Cal will always be thought of as a cheater.

Every program he has been a head coach, has had to vacate its greatest accomplishments while he was there.

Whether he is cheating at UK or not, he will always be remembered in that way. Simply because of what has happened while he was at UMass and Memphis.

Seems he likes to talk about cheating...I am starting to wonder if it was him or her that did the dirty deed.

Got it, so Cal reaches the Final 4 75 percent of time after the Elite 8

and

Self only reaches the Final 4 33 percent of the time after the Elite 8.

Eta: it is 10 times.

How many times did Tubby miss the tournament? Cal made more final fours and they both have 1 title.

The Calipari jock riders are either Kentucky fanboys or people who don't actually pay attention to college basketball (read: RTR America). He's a recruiter and surrogate NBA agent.

This is Kentucky we are talking about. They don't give a frick about just making the damn tournament. Not doing anything once you get there is what got Tubby forced out the door.

Tubby won one championship with Pitino's players that had just won a championship and were runner ups the previous season.

He then didn't make it back to the final four for the rest of his tenure. Cal went to the Final Four 4 times in his first 6 seasons at UK.

Basically every HOF coach in CBB right now has some shady shite on their record. Even K does, they just didn't punish them for it.

Cal had a player take money from an agent and played a future NBA MVP that had been cleared by the NCAA.

Hell what has happened to Cal isn't nearly as bad as Pitino's hooker scandal or Boeheim's lengthy list of issues at Syracuse (academic misconduct, drug policy issues, extra benefits).

quote:

There are six active Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coaches in college.

Here's the list:

Syracuse's Jim Boeheim
SMU's Larry Brown
Kentucky's John Calipari
Duke's Mike Krzyzewski
Louisville's Rick Pitino
North Carolina's Roy Williams
Every one of them has won a national championship, half have coached in the NBA, and all of them are still running programs at the highest level of the sport. They're an accomplished bunch still capable of accomplishing things, the men on that list. And yet what stands out most about them to me, especially on a day like today, is that the majority of them have dealt with allegations of major rules violations inside the programs they run.

There are six active Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coaches in college.
