I bet this gets discussed every year. Hoover's ballpark looks a little meh. Where would a better spot be? New Orleans(frick LSU)? Atlanta? Houston(best ballpark but least central)?

Seriously, make it move around. It's not like it takes a huge amount of planning for the media or the city/university involved, make it a showdown for home field advantage at the end of the year.

We have the SoCon tournament at Joe Riley Stadium here in Charleston. Given I'm biased as Charleston is where I live and I work for the team that plays in said stadium, I would love for us to have it here. It's a great destination location and the stadium is pretty nice.

Unfortunately it's merely a pipe dream as the city is inconvenient for everyone except for South Carolina and maybe Georgia or Florida. Oh well. Maybe Gwinnett?

Its fricking stupid that this tournament never moves. I've never been to the SECT. Have it in Memphis or Texas or Little Rock and I'm there.

Then send it to Georgia or South Carolina for a couple of years.

Give other fanbases a chance to go without taking a week off work.

Downtown Bham, Gwinnett, Metairie, Pearl, and Memphis all offer better options...BUT THE RV'ssss!!!

How the SoCon is D1 is beyond me. There are HS teams better. Love Charleston but not SEC city. Nice park on the river though.

I've learned something about the SEC I never knew before we joined: Overall, many people who are fans of quite a few of the teams do not have the financial means to go places that don't involve driving.
It's been one of the biggest surprises to me (the poverty, that is).
This discussion of having to have all events in one central place is a head-scratcher.
But I'm with you. I think a rotation would be great--for the athletes and the fans.

Whitaker Ballpark (KC Royals AA team) in Lexington is muuuuuuuuuuuuuch better then the concrete jungle in Hoover.

Wonder if we could get the Pensacola Blue Wahoos' park for a week?

It's your own fanbase that holds it back with their need to bring RVs to a fricking baseball tournament

Travel seven hours to every home game and Bama is known not to travel, right? Far and away the most podunk bunch ever in Tuscaloosa - ATM. Small crowd at that.

The park is nice. Hotels are abundant. There is an international airport 20 miles away. There are enough Arkansas/LSU/Texas A&M alumni in DFW to sell that place out easy.

And I don't care. They'd figure it out.

It's more about being spoiled than money. The old 10 schools are within car day trips of each other. Now with expansion that's no longer the case and people get pissed when they can't just jot down the interstate to the next event. They'll still send 10k to away football games but you're going to hear bitching about it.

Makes sense for some, I guess.
I just have a tough time relating, since I've found that traveling to different venues across the map is one of the great things about college athletics.
Thanks for the post.
