There is always a lot of talk about the top HC recruiters - Orgeron, Sumlin, Freeze, Lyle, Boom (AKA The Flipper), etc, but the view from here (the top) it looks to me like Smart is going to be taking over the East for the long-term. UF might get one more year of winning the East, but then it's done. The competition for him in the SEC East just looks to be laying down, and he's running the show over there.

1 - Smart
2 - Sumlin
3 - Orgeron
4 - ?

Yes, yes he is.

Saban, who has had the number one class in the country the last 4 out of 5 yrs or 5 out of last 6 (whatever it is), is over the hill and out of touch.

Just look at this years recruiting class. Bama's class was putrid...

Honestly, this wasn't about Alabama. I think Alabama is an instance of a program creating so much success that it's selling itself. Granted, Saban takes all the recent credit for building that, but he doesn't have the struggle to build something that most schools are looking at.

Y'all are so negative you can't even accept a discussion topic without thinking it's a hook.

Georgia is like LSU. You have to wonder how good Kirby would do if he were at Tennessee or Alabama. He is very good though.

or we could, ya know...maybe give the guy more than 1 year to see how good he could be here? Crazy, I know.

It depends. Does Freeze get to use his checkbook or not?

I'd say Smart would be a better recruiter as a position coach than Saban as a position coach

As HCs? Smart is doing extremely well but he isn't getting top 100 kids from out of state grayshirting for him

Look smartass, it's obvious that he is recruiting at an elite level at Georgia already. I think that continues. What I clearly said was I was curious how he would recruit as head coach at a school without the absurd amount of elite high school talent that Georgia has. You know, like Tennessee and Alabama.

Well...Smarts first recruiting class was ranked 3rd according to rivals. I think he is a very good recruiter and it helps that UGA is a school that normally attracts top talent especially from the state of Georgia. However, the part I am most interested in is seeing if Smart can take that talent to the next level and win championships...something that Richt fell short on.

If he can pull a top 5 class again this year, I would give him the Title. However I don't see that happening, but you never know.

My vote has Coach O as the top recruiter in the SEC.

Richt never recruited like this, or if he did, it was a while ago. As I say that, he has Miami at #1. Very early in the process.

Isn't that part of the problem though - schools hire these guys that are supposed to be hot-shite recruiters, but forget that someone has to actually coach and run the program.

Rivals Team Rankings - Alabama

Non-Nick Saban Alabama
2002 - #30
2003 - #52
2004 - #23
2005 - #18
2006 - #13

Nick Saban Alabama
2007 - #11
2008 - #1
2009 - #1
2010 - #5
2011 - #1
2012 - #1
2013 - #1
2014 - #1
2015 - #2
2016 - #1
2017 - #1

Alabama didn't sell itself before Nick Saban showed up. Our recruiting pre-Saban wasn't nearly as good as pre-Smart UGA's.
