This entire thread is smart-assery. Nobody thinks that Saban is not the King of College Recruiting.
Jeez, Saban has had more NCAA rules written in response to his recruiting than my school has had 5* signees. Get real

Think he would do that at Rutgers? Or Texas Tech?
You could use that argument against a lot of great recruiters. Would Kirby be having this success at those schools, probably not.

Finish #1? Probably not. Do things they've never done before in recruiting? Probably so.
Saban's one of the top 2 (Urban Meyer), if not the greatest recruiting head coaches in college football history. It isn't really debated, even amongst people who despise him.
I don't think so. It has to be a combination of a great recruiter/coach with a vision to sell and a school that at least has some history.
Meyer didn't win at Utah because of recruiting; he won because he can coach. Saban obviously can as well. But these guys weren't pulling in top 5 classes at Utah and Michigan State, were they? I seriously don't know, but I doubt it.
I don't despise Saban because he's great; but I don't particularly like him because he makes everything look like it's damn chore.

I'm real and just pointing out not having Saban on his list is silly. Has State ever had a 5 star?
Posted on 4/10/17 at 2:42 pm to SummerOfGeorge
I agree Saban and Meyer are 1-2. I think Pete Carroll was one of the greats also.

Didn't they have one last year?

No they weren't bringing in elite classes at those schools.

I honestly have no clue, me googling that is far too much work for something I don't particularly care about.

To be fair, it was only 1 but they shipped the leftovers to asia to feed the impoverished asians.

Meyer took Florida recruiting to a level it had never been at before. Saban took LSU AND Alabama recruiting to a level they had never been at before.
They'd recruit at the peak possible level at wherever they went, I have no doubts about that.
Who exactly would go to Texas Tech and Rutgers and recruit #1 classes? Are we holding them to a standard that doesn't exist or a realistic one?

Oh well I guess

You are right. However, Utah was not in a P5 conference at the time so that was a disadvantage to a certain extent. Even if they was, I doubt you would see top 5 classes but I imagine it would be top 25. Plus he was there only 2 years before getting the UF gig.

Lew, ban this troll already.

The whole argument, "well could the coach recruit as well at a small school?" Is just idiotic. Coaches leave small schools for traditional powerhouses for that very reason. Recruits want to play at schools with great traditions, 100,000 fans at their games, the best facilities money can buy. Herman brought some 5 stars to Houston but guess what? He bounced when Texas came calling. Actual recruiting isn't like in the video games where you allocate a certain number of hours and you get the kid. Saying ,"well would Saban being doing this at Georgia State?" is just a moronic hypothetical.
