I think he could be great elsewhere, but not Auburn. First, he doesn't fit the offense and there are limited experienced playmakers out wide. Second, Gus Malzahn hasn't proven he can groom a high-school quarterback. Third, Auburn has been best on offense with dual-threats. Fourth, I think he fits best in a pro-style offense like Arkansas/Alabama/Wisconsin/Michigan State.

I should have qualified my statement as he was young last year and certainly could improve. However, watching him play in our O makes anyone wonder if he is capable of making plays to win games both with his feet and his arm (stretching the field with accuracy). I do believe he has some intangibles that you want in a QB ala Allen at arkie last season. But at the end of the day I want more than 8-9 win seasons. Personally, I don't see him achieving more than that as the QB at Auburn. As with any player I have concerns about on our team...I hope I am wrong.

It would be a little ignorant of me to try and make a judgement of White for last season as a whole, I didn't watch nearly as much as the average Auburn fan. I will say that he did everything he could to win the Arkansas game. I know WR drops have been brought up before but he threw some great balls right into the hands of the WR only to be dropped. Our secondary was terrible last year so it might not be the best basis for comparison though.

This has also been my mindset in regards to him but there seems to be a significant portion of the Auburn fan base that trust Gus can mold an offense to fit his strengths.

I think too much is made of White being a poor system fit. We would have struggled throwing the ball in any offense last season with our group of wr's. Same reason JJ struggled last season too imo.

He had many more issues than just the WRs

IMO White is the type of kid who goes to ECU or UAB and thrives and makes people ask why he didn't go to a better school. Somewhere where he isn't surrounded by top tier talent and is given the reigns to the team. His intelligence and leadership ability isn't diminished by the fact that he's not that big, strong, athletic, etc.

I hope he can do that at Auburn, I just feel like sometimes SEC caliber programs have difficulty putting players like that into the right roles. Meanwhile, those players will periodically show up to scare or beat an SEC team.

I still think Gus is capable of that, but we haven't seen it in a while.

To some extent, White is the type of player we thought Gus would love when Gus first arrived. He's got some mobility, is a heady player and doesn't appear to get intimidated.

I still think that if other things relatively fall into place, White can be a competent QB for Auburn. I just don't think many of us think he can elevate us beyond what the rest of the team is capable of given his limitations.

Yes he got frustrated and lost confidence but I honestly believe not having anyone who could get open and catch the ball after Duke went full tard was the root cause. He was on preseason heisman lists for a reason and he looked like he belonged when he was throwing to our 2014 wr corp.

Sean White was 4*, rated the #6 pro style QB, and a top 100 overall recruit. He was also the MVP of the Elite 11.

That type of kid does not go to UAB or ECU.

I like you Petti, but that was one of the dumbest things I've read regarding Sean White.

He's not the type of QB we're used to seeing from Malzahn, but he's without a question the best QB we have.

No one will listen to the truth.

No one.

JF3 is frickin half a pawn on Gus' self promo chess board.

If JF3 can get Gus to 6-3 after the Vandy game, IF, then Gus will begin his slide out the back door to Waco, Texas. One hand still inside waving for everyone to calm down. Then November 27th will be the day the media breaks the story of the Gus Bus leaving for Baylor.

JF3Who? It don't matter.

Who is "the future at quarterback at Auburn"? Ain't on campus. Ain't gonna find him till the next coach comes in.

I may be the minority in this, but I still think Jeremy Johnson is the best answer for Auburn at the moment

While I agree with your sentiment about ECU and UAB...White only had 3 other Power 5 offers I believe they were Boston College, WVU and Wake Forest. Ironically Toledo, South Florida, and a few other schools who offered as well that fit the scare or beat the SEC schools as suggested by the other post.

This is the dumbest thing I've read in a while. Gu's seat is not as hot as many of you think and really only needs 6-7 wins to secure it for another year. Baylor wont look yo hire him unless he's had a good season and Gus wont be looking to leave if he has a good season - we will be better in 2017 as more experienced and he will be having the closest thing to Cam stepping on campus- shy the hell would the leave then?

This really doesn't have anything to do with what I posted. I'm not talking about White's recruitment, although for the metrics you used, White was an under recruited QB. A lot of teams appear to have questioned White in the same manner Auburn fans now do. Do you remember his offer list? While I'm overselling the disparity with ECU and UAB, it wasn't far off.

But my point was that he's the type of kid who I think ends up excelling in smaller environments where he gets a full shot to be the leader of a less talented team and there are fewer shiny distractions around for fans and coaches. And in that spot, I think he'd likely perform at a very high level.

That isn't to say he can't perform like that for us, I just think we're going to have a harder time sticking with a guy like that and giving the offense to him in the manner a smaller school might not hesitate to do.

I said in another thread that if Gus molds him into a starter of any kind of success, you can no longer say he can't develop QBs
