As for the title, yes, there is a key difference in "gumps" and barn fans. The team they root for.
Beyond that, 95% of the fan bases are essentially the same people wearing different colors.

Alabama fans are in the news more often for crimes against other fans, and their own fans.

Same group of people. There is a difference in the attitudes toward their program.
UA- arrogant, in-your-face
AU- defensive, keep to themselves more

I have an MSU buddy in South Alabama and he says Alabama Aubun is like the old Miller Lite commercials.

No, there are many national brands. tOSU, USC, Michigan, OU, etc.
NONE have as many embarrassing fans as Bama.
Heck I think Bama has more teabaggers, tree killers, or drunk fisticuf mothers as the rest of them combined.

Things Bama grads that work withing my corporation have told me:
- "Winning at Alabama is our birth right"
- "I don't think Auburn will ever be capable of beating Alabama ever again. Saban knows it's too important to us"
- "It'll take A&M ten years to get a win over Alabama"
- "Auburn has the ugliest girls of any school in the south"(a female said this)
- "Ole Miss will never be serious about football"
The Ole Miss thing is true though. And there were more, there aren't any current grads out of my office, just at training and conferences and stuff have I heard these gems.

I think it's all just dumb. You and I aren't that different. The only difference is God loves me, so I'm not a ginger.

Honestly? Yes. I've seen far more embarrassing fans in the UA fanbase. I have many more friends that are Bama fans and would rather go to a game in TTown though.

If I measured myself on the behavior of our fanbase, I would have a hard time getting up in the morning.
That being said, I laugh at any auburn fan who somehow thinks their fanbase are qualitatively different.
