Arden Key might be the best in the nation but certainly among the top 2 or 3.

Yeh I think we have some first rounders starting

quote:

NT?

Lawrence

quote:

LB?

Arden key, Devin white, and probably chaisson

quote:

WR

Chark

quote:

OL

I think this is the hardest position to scout and predict. I do have a gut feeling about one of the freshman, Deculus, that he's pro level talent, but that's speculation and not certain

Chaisson is Arden key 2.0
They are built alike and play alike. They are both built for the hybrid LB/DE spot in Arandas defense

Down the road it will become evident that both Auburn and LSU have better defenses than FSU

Auburn is loaded on the DL and their LBs are solid. Quick and sure tackling secondary as well.

LSU's D will center around Key but they've already proven that they'll be effective without him. The DL is stout and the LBs are absolutely filthy (best LB corps I've ever seen at LSU) and the secondary is incredible once again.

Alabama's toughest game on offense will be vs LSU and I don't think it'll be close. This LSU defense will finish top 10 probably top 5 and go down as one of the best in LSU history.

However, maybe you should think just a little bit about this kind of statement?

Fans can get get carried away with 1st round projections for sure. But he simply said multiple NFL starters on every level of the D.
quote:

LSU has multiple future NFL starters at every single level of their defense and the best DC in college football. They are every bit as good as FSU. I truly think they are better but time will tell.

That has never not been true at LSU to be honest. Even in our "down years."

2013 was the worst defense we've had in a while. We are a lot better right now. From that 2013 Defense:

-DT Ego Ferguson: LSU Starter
2nd round pick Chicago. Played in all 16 games in 2014, starter in 2015 before injured week 4.

-DT Anthony Johnson: LSU Starter
Undrafted former 5 star. Signed and played in 7 games for Miami before injured. First career start for the New England Patriots in 2016. Currently with the jets

-DE Danielle hunter: LSU starter
3rd round pick Minnesota. Starting DE, Tied for 3rd in NFL with 12.5 sacks in 2016. NFL all rookie team 2015

-LB Kwon Alexander: LSU Starter
4th round Tampa bay. Starting MLB. All rookie team 2015. 238 tackles in two seasons

-LB Lamin Barrow: LSU Starter
5th round pick Denver. Played in all 16 games recording 1 start.

-CB Rashard Robinson: LSU Starter
Dismissed from LSU after 2013. Drafted 4th Round by SF. Current starter

-CB Tradavious White: LSU starter
1st round pick Buffalo. Current starter

-CB Jalen Collins: LSU part time starter
2nd round pick ATL. ATL starter currently serving suspension.

-S/CB Jalen Mills: LSU starter
7th round PHI. Current starting cornerback

Honorable mentions

-LB Deon Jones:
Did not start for LSU in 2013. 15 tackles including TFL against A&M in 2013. 3 tackle games against Auburn and Iowa
2nd round pick ATL. Starting MLB, NFL all rookie team 2016.

-DE Kendall Beckwith:
Did not start for LSU in 2013. Freshman DE pass rusher in 2013. Had 4th qtr sack fumble against UF to seal game. 11 tackles on year.
3rd round Tampa '17. Listed as 2nd team inside LB week 1. Projected to start in middle alongside Kwon this season.

Keep in mind 2013 was a down year on defense after the departures of all our 2011 defenders. As a result some of these guys were not high picks but many turned into very good NFL starters,
Our defense has caught back up, especially in the trenches, and is pumping out high end defensive talent this past and upcoming draft.

Look to see more 1st rounders, like Adams and white this past draft and [at least] Key this upcoming one. similar to the 2010-2012 squads when we could have 5 on the field at any given time

Why would it have to be down the road...? None of you could match player for player who were better than those I named and I forgot to include DT Derrick Nnadi. From what I saw of L6 and Aub I know they aren't as talented/proven as FSU this season.

LSU, very possible.

Auburn, very seriously doubt it. Maybe they are light years better than last year, but the Auburn defense I saw last year (in very similar situations as FSU was in) wasn't in the same league as the 2017 FSU defense. That isn't to say Auburn isn't a very solid defense, but they didn't just off the page the way FSU did (and LSU almost always does).

Just my opinion.

You can't say that with a straight face. Auburn's defense performed about as well as anyone could, allowing 0 points and only giving up 78 yards against Georgia Southern.

Now, if you want to say they are unproven based on opponent played, fine.

Also, did you record the Auburn game or something? They were basically on at the same time as Alabama.

Uh, what fan doesn't record all conference games and then break them down and send the findings to their team's coach?

This is absolutely true.

He didn't say every position. He said every level of the defense.

In fact, he didn't even mention the offense in the post you quoted.

Key was one of the best coming back, but he has taken a interesting road back.

He had a dubious departure in the spring and he is still being held out due to a shoulder surgery.

His weight ballooned during his absence.

He may never get back to his past form this season, so I would hold off putting a crown on his being one of the best in college football at this time.

at the end of 2016 total defense had UF@5, L6U@10, (just behind Boston College) UGA@16, Aubarn@28, FSU@22... so UF has a better defense than L6U? This year?

Ask Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson had equally as bad a game against Houston a few weeks before the end of the season. Then, he threw 3 interceptions against Kentucky the last week of the season. His last 3 regular season games were pretty bad

Vs Wake Forest, Houston, Kentucky
50/94 (53%)
212 Yards Passing Per Game
6.78 YPA
4 TD / 3 INT
119 Yards Rushing Per Game
2 Rush TDs

vs Wake Forest, Houston
34/69 (49%)
178 Yards Passing Per Game
5.16 YPA
2 TD / 0 INT
93 Yards Rushing Per Game
0 Rush TDs

What LSU did to him was impressive, but lets not act like Louisville in November/December was hitting on all cylinders the same way they were in September.

Sure, because UF gave up 16 less yards per game they are better than LSU.

The gap between LSU and FSU was 50 yards btw.

Something else you might find interesting...

Points Per Game
1 LSU: 16
2 UF: _16.8
3 FSU: 26.4

Which defense held Bama to 10 in regulation their last two trips to BR and Louisville to 9 last year? That's your answer. Lsu's D is the only one that consistently challenges Bama

How does Aub and LSU stack up to what Bama fans are saying is the best D we will face all season? Name your players who are better than these listed.

In fairness...it was special team miscues that made the biggest difference for you against FSU.

And, to me it is more about how the entire unit gels and works together. Both LSU and Auburn defenses have always played well together. It wouldn't surprise me to see both of those defenses being better than FSU's at the end of the year, and they (Auburn and LSU) will play an overall tougher schedule.
